I find it VERY hard to believe

I've read all of the Radio Shack posts -and I'm not saying it's impossible - but I find it VERY hard to believe that RS is going to get this phone before the Verizon retail stores.

Wasn't this phone tested in a large part for Verizon's network? Isn't Motorola in daily if not hourly contact with Verizon regarding the status of testing, the release date, etc? Haven't they been joined at the hip for months and months on this phone? If so - does it make sense that Motorola would ship it to RS before Verizon?

Also - Verizon is very well aware that their customers have been chomping at the bit for this phone. Does it make sense that they would sit back while another vendor releases it before them?

I'd be absolutely FLOORED if Radio Sh...

You'll never find a concrete answer to anything here. That is just fact. Not to be rude to the Salesmen of RS who have been so kind as to pump info as of late, but what they "know" is told to them by someone else, and the information can be changed as those people see fit.

I do have the same gut feeling as you that VZW would do everything that it could to try and stop an early release. I figure with atleast my and other calls to their centers asking the resounding, "WTF?" about it, that something may have been done.

Does this stop me from asking my local RSes? Not at all, though they all have said call back tonight or tomorrow mid day to have better info. Will I take the oppotunity to get a it if I can, probably not. My VX6000 is...

i believe that vzw has an exclusive initial release contract w/moto. if this is true, (i don't know that it is or isn't true) then only vzw can sell the v710 for a period of 30 to 90 days. this is the reason why RS does not have the 7000 yet.

Well, we know that the phone is in RS DC's. And it's a good bet that reports of two-phone shipments to some stores are probably true (too many people have reported it already - I doubt all those managers would be wrong about what their manifests would say). Plus, the RS flyer advertising the V710 will be in homes Aug 3rd, so they probably will be selling it officially on or about the 3rd.

The big question is, can stores sell the phone before this magical Aug 3rd date. That's all it really boils down to I guess.

a agree w/dalereeck's previous post. my question is why would they (RS) only send 2 phones. that sounds very strange.

The manager I spoke to said that's standard procedure with new phones - only two to start with. Probably because they have to feed a couple of thousand RS's with phones and they can't afford to give every store 5 or 6.

i believe that RS jumped the gun. vzw does have an exclusive initial release contract w/moto for the v710. i hope i'm wrong, but i don't think RS will be able to sell the phone when it comes in. unless they have consent from vzw to sell the phones.

I think that no matter what, if the phone arrives in a RS, they will sell it as soon as possible. I know this because it will make them money, and they could care a little less about a exclusivity agreement. Granted they could possibly lose their job, but they made a couple bucks doing so 😁

it's not just about a few jobs. it's about RS's contract w/vzw. if RS loses the contract w/vzw, RS loses a good source of revenue.

Lose their job???
Dude- ever hear of getting SUED by a MAMMOTH like VERIZON...

I don't know if there is, in fact, an exclusivity agreement - but if there is - I can GUARANTEE you that not a single phone is getting sold from RS until the agreement passes.

BTW- I'm calling BS on the "2 phones per store arriving tomorrow" story - but even if it were true - I'd bet that the 2 phones would be some sort of "display" or "demo" for the sales associates to see / learn - but certainly not to sell.

but - lik...

Verizon isn't going to sue RS over these stupid phones. They make too much money from their RS agreement.

We're just telling you all what we've been told by a number of managers - they are getting them in tomorrow or Friday. Whether it happens or not an whether they can sell them right away is a different story. And then there's the flyer. It arrives in homes Aug 3rd and I doubt Verizon will be ready by then (Aug 11th is what I heard for them). If it arrives in homes advertising a phone that isn't available, RS will have a clusterf*ck to deal with. Anything's possible I guess, we'll see tommorrow.

But really dude, why are you so gleeful over this if we do get hosed? It's worth a shot to try. If it doesn't happen this week, it doesn't h...

I'm not gleeful over it, or pissed over the excitement - I just hate seeing people get jerked around or promised things that can't be delivered - and this one I saw from a mile away.
I actually felt badly for the people who were getting their hopes up, and I knew they were going to be disappointed. I knew the reason for it was that RS was jumping the gun. It's one thing to advertise - but to take orders and promise delivery when t...

Thank you. At most a fine, thus someone losing their job.

Yes I agree. I also find it hard to believe that Verizon would let their flagship phone be released by RadioShack first.

Out of curiousity the other day I went by the RadioShack right outside my subway station on Queens Blvd near 64th Rd. in Rego Park. They looked up the SKU on the computer and told me that they weren't getting any in (but they are a small RS store). The sales guy asked the manager and he said that this phone has been delayed since last year (which almost made me laugh) so he didn't know when they were going to get it. I guess he didn't look at the August flyer.

Start believing it, I went into a local RS and the manager said he was expecting the 2-phone shipment today. He said they were both already sold, which really sucks because I would be holding the phone right now if they weren't 😢
