3 year contract

i will be having my friend buy the phone for me his 2-year is up. and then i will activating it on my account i am one year into my 2-year does that mean that they will renew my contract so that i will have the 1 year that resides now and then the added 2 making my contract 3 years?

They only renew your account when you purchase a subsidized phone or change plans on your account.
