I can't seem to get Phonetools - an actual legal copy đ - to work with the V710. I got the "Futuredial" USB cable from Radio Shack. It seems to know something is there, but it can't quite identify the phone and it just "initializes" all the time. I hope it's not a cable compatibility problem. The phone beeps when I connect and remove the cable and Qualcomm Tools saw that it was a Motorola phone of some unknown type. SO it seems to communicate. Plus, the USB driver from Phonetools installed OK.
I also tried plugging the USB cable directly into the computer instead of a hub. Still no go. Anyone get Phonetools to actually work with the V710?
...
Is your V710 closed when you are trying to sync or do you have it flipped open? Make sure it's closed.
...
Closed, open, doesn't matter, it won't work. I also checked to make sure that other things using USB, like Activesync, are closed/deactivated. till nothing.
...
I can certainly try it. But PT does seem to install the USB driver for the phone OK. It's called V878-V690. It's the PT app itslef that can't seem to find the phone.
...
I think it may be the cable. The Motorola cable is straight through while the Futuredial cable has this inline block thingy. When I plug in the cable (even without the phone connected), it starts trying to detect a USB device. It seems the block thing has some electronics in it that might be interfereing with the phone. Unfortunatley, the Furturedial software doesn't list the V710 as a compatible phone.

I have the same problem. Legal copy of MPT 2.0 and MOTOROLA CABLE. Cannot get it to connect with V710.
I called Motorola and was told "It should work but since it is not OFFICIALLY RELEASED, I cannot offer support until it is released"
ThaT IS REALLY ROTTEN!!! đŋ
Anyways the phone is cool but can't do as much with it as I'd like
...
So does the Phonetools include the drivers to recognize the phone ??
Can we use quicklink to upload names ??
...
It does, but I am using the Futuredial cable and I'm told it's a serial-USB converter while the real Morotorla cable is straight through. At least in my case, that could be the problem. I am picking up an actual Motorola cable shorty.
...
Yes I have, using the Motorola USB cable and software.
I have also tried it with the BT adaptor and it gets stuck 'initializing'. The BT adaptor will link up with my computers tho to dial the phone and use it as a modem with windows xp dialing. it also turns the computer into a speaker phone.
the day the phone release becomes official i will be on with Moto trying to get that fixed. until then, they wont give support... âšī¸

Hmmm. I wonder if anyone has gotten it to work? Let's see, we can't bluetooth the contacts over. Phonetools with USB doesn't seem to be working. I'm not buying GIN or any other Verizon service. And I'm also not entering 90+ contacts, each with multiple phone numbers.
Wonderful.

AND there is NO SUPPORT FROM MOTOROLA

Which version of phonetools?
...
2.21b with the live updates done.
...
Thanks. I actually got it working by using an actual Motorola cable, not the FutureDial one.
...
The FutureDial cable atleast according to users on HowardForums doesn't work with anything other than the FutureDial software unless you hack the cable by modifying it. The original Motorola Cable or the one from eforcity.com works fine. Eforcity sells the cable cheaper on EBay and the Eforcity cable allows charging the phone via USB and not require a extra charger like the Motorola OEM cable.
...
How did you get it to work?
I have the Motorola USB cable and MPT 2.0 (actual disk) and it sticks initiallizing.
Help?
...
I'm going to try an actual Motorola cable as someone pointed out that the FutureDial cable I have is a converter cable from USB to serial, not straight through like the Motorola. I'll soon see.

Ditto, same setup(s), and same problems - 2 of us here in my office got the phone at the same time.
Also, I noticed on the compatability chart that it lists the v710, but only for email and sms ???

Also something very important to note for people that are trying their V710 to connect Mobile PhoneTools via Bluetooth. In that PDF document above, there is a PC/Phone connection column and you'll notice that Bluetooth phones like the V600 and V525 have a Bluetooth symbol as well as a USB symbol in them. The V710 ONLY has the USB symbol so you can't connect the V710 to Mobile PhoneTools 2.0 via Bluetoot...

OK, we went and purchased VZW's Mobile Office Kit (ripoff at $40) which has the straight through cable, and that seems to work fine, as others have posted. Works fine with both the Smith-Micro software that came with the VZW kit and with Mobile phone tools.
Now we just hafta figure out how to transfer files via cable - my TF card STILL has not shown up yet đĄ

You need to run the live update *twice* to get it to work. You need version 2.21F
The update is from the menu -> set up -> live update

ANY OTHER IDEAS?
How did you get yours to work, I have motorola cable?
...
just buy the transflash card for 33 and buy a cheap sd reader (i got one for 10 at staples)
then your set, mac or pc and it works the best!
...
I am having problems getting this to work....
Phone tools just lists initializing... no matter what driver i use for windows it does not want to work....Anyone have any ideas????
...
Make sure you are using a generic Motorola cord. The ones that they sell at Radio Shack are different. The standard Motorola cords that work with the V600 will work with this.
...
I am using that exact same cord!
I have updated to 2.21f.
I am still stuck initializing.
I have tried this process on several computers.
HELP
...
I'm in the same boat as you. I spent $75 ordering the legit Motorola cable and software from motorola.com. I updated to version 2.21f. I've tried two different computers. Still no luck.
Did you ever get yours working?
...
The problem is your cable. The future dial cable is a serial to usb device that has a profita chip in it and thats what its reconizing as hardware. This cable will not work you need a straight cable.
...
That piece of crap cable is your problem... All it is is a USB-serial adapter... take it back to RS and get the moto cable from the verizon business site..
http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2b/ewelcome/ »the non motorola cables (and I've tested 4 of them) don't work with MPT or PST...
