VZWPix to send MP3's
I know that you can put Mp3's on the V710 using a TF card. But I also heard that you can put MP3s onto the phone by changing the .mp3 to .mid and sending them as an attachment to [email protected]. Is there any truth to this? This would be nice if it is true because it would save me some money initially from having to buy a TF card.

you can definitely text a ringtone. I tested it. But didn't try mp3 renamed. The ringtone post that "Level 2" has posted works. thats midi files though.

Yes, this does work. If you change the file name to .mid instead of mp3 it is delivered via vzwpix, will try regular text and see if that works to, but I doubt it.

I want to try this and have but I get a mailor demon saying that Email isnt real, if I get that working will the ringtone be sent directly to the phone or do I haev to use VZWPix which Im not sure how to if I do. So if so could someone explain how to get those tones that you sent to yourself.

but what do you mean create a pix message, is all you do send the .mid file in an attatchment to your [email protected]? and is that supposed to work on its own? or do you have to do other thigns to the email to establish that it is a picture message etc. please explain casue i am yet to recieve any mail on my phone

Actually I got it working but when I get the message on my phone and i try to save the file it says the mid file is a txt file and i try saving it and it syas file type unrecognizable

You have to have a picture messaging plan through Verizon I believe to get it to work, otherwise the attachments won't come through on a regular text msg

This happened to me too. I can not successfully send such a file to myself. I have tried renaming (not converting) and the message never shows up. I called Verizon, they said the correct address is [email protected], but that did not work either, the attachement does not come. I am going to try one more time using yahoo as the source of the email. It is frustrating.

yes as long as its in a mid file type...easiest is to upload to the pixplace web site and then send it from there to your phone...when your phone receives it there should be an option to save sound...rename it to something you like...and it should show up on your phone...on my LG 6000 i created a pic message on the phone, did not attach a pic but recorded a sound. Sent that to myself, when i received it i saved the sound and could pick that as my ringtone. (it was my saying "Answer the DAMN phone") hope this helps..let me know if not..

I was having several problems with this. I finally realized 2 things.
1, that the file has to be less than 1 mb, which it sounds like you've already got figured out.
And 2, that you have to reencode the .mp3 and reduce the bitrate to 64 kbps before you rename it as a .mid and send it.
Ringtone ripper will reduce the bitrate for you, but it also cuts the mp3 to 20 seconds. I don't know if there's a way around that, but if there is I didn't find it. If you want to change the bitrate withough cutting the length down you can use a program called razorlame. It took me about 10 minutes to create and send a ringtone after I figured this out.

I've done it by tf card it works great, as for sending them via email i really don't think it will work because a .mid is not the same as a .mp3 file and there is no way to change it on the phone. Plus don't feeling like paying per message. buy.com tf w/ sd adapter 40 bucks then sd reader radioshack 20 bucks

It works in the short term until I get my TF card, you don't have to change the file name back on the phone, it works fine.

Yes, just find the file and rename, changing the extension to .mid instead of .mp3 There are probably many ways to shorten the song, there appears to be something in mobile phone tools, but haven't played with it yet, there is also the free ringtoneripper.com

When I try to install the ringtone ripper, it says i need a version of .net frameworks..like 1.1.4322 or something like that...but i checked and i have like version 2.0 or somethin..is there another program?

First you are best off DL the File ITunes the free version you don't need to pay for the full version. Then once you have done that go to prefrance and change the converting bitrate to 64 (You will have to go to Custom to do this) and make shore it is set to convert to MP3. Once you have done this it all depends on what you are trying to do. If you want a full song I recomend keeping the file under 1mb, if you are just looking to make a Ringtone then you want to shorten the song to 25 to 30 sec.
