Bluetooth vulnerable to hacking and data leak - Yahoo News

AFAIK the easy vulnerability is with phones that remain in discoverable mode all the time by default - an unfortunate default choice of some mfrs, of whom Motorola is thankfully not one. Motorola's discovery period has always been limited to between 1-3 minutes, to my knowledge.

That's not to say BT isn't unhackable - it's only a matter of time, but I don't believe this is a hole present in the V710.

The sad thing here is this line from the article:

Many users set their phones on what hackers call promiscuous mode in order to use Bluetooth accessories, such as headsets, but carelessly leave it in that mode, he noted.


That line *implies* that you need to leave the phone in "promiscuous mode" (I love that p...

Thanks for the insight. I feel much safer now and less paranoid about pairing my v710 with my Pocket PC and headset.

I remember an article about a practice called "toothing". I think it was happening on London subways.

Yep.

And because toothing generally requires OBEX, the wild anonymous sex in train station bathrooms that apparently happens in London subways as a result of toothing will be forever denied to all v710 owners. ;)

How could anyone hack into this thing if we can't even get anything off it with BT! LOL
