That looks like a drawback to the HS820 that others have noted. When it's "on", it should be on your ear, or you won't hear the ring. When you take it off, you need to turn it off. Closing the boom on the HS810 will do this for you, but the HS810 is (AFAICT) somewhat larger and more expensive.
