i'm assuming that there isn't a way to play back mp3's in stereo? seeing as how there aren't any stereo jacks on the phone.

there is an adapter for stereo out of the headset jack, but there is no evidence that the v710's jack supports the adapter and no evidence that it doesn't either.

Go onto the moto 710 page, click accessories and look at headphones.

There IS a stereo headphone that was used on the older phones to listen to the radio.
It plugs into the dataport, which can be a bit of a pain, since you can't anything else plugged in.

That is no guarantee either, because the Stereo signal is coming from the bulge in the line, not necessarily mean it will work. the moto phone acts as a controller only. I highly doubt the phone does any audio processing.

who would want mono mp3?

here's an excerpt from the phone's ad sheet

-- Stereo sound via headset when you don't want to miss a sound

-- TransFlash Memory Expansion Slot to bring your media with you

-- WAP 2.0 for enhanced web browsing

-- BREW 2.1 for applications and content download

-- Large 2.2" Color Display for a rich mobile viewing

it's $100, which is a bit of a rip-off. but it says that it comes with TWO 32mb sd cards. which almost makes up for it. except for that fact that the v710 uses transflash. (i know, it's compatible, but transflash w/ adapter will work in sd slot, not vice versa)

That is just pointless. still probably won't port the sound out of the phone. see my earlier post. its the same deal. might as well get a v60 or t730 and save $$$
