Hey folks, check this out!!! Regarding display timeout vs. backlight....

Ok, so how does your phone operate? My backlight is set to 20 seconds and display timeout is set to 1 minute. However after 20 seconds of not touching keypad, the display just goes black! I can't see anything anymore unless i hit a key. Isn't it supposed to just dim or something? I tried playing with the display timeout settings, but no changes. Does anyone else have this same issue? Any thoughts? Thanks.

That is supposed to happen. The phone is set with a battery save. If you go into menu/ initial setup/ and turn batter save off. It should work.

Battery save is just regarding the keypad light... not what i was talking about. But anyhow, i realized the issue... see my other post. thanks.

Nevermind, i realized it works when the phone is UNPLUGGED.... but when it is plugged in and charging... the display goes OFF after the backlight goes off. STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!! It should just stay on if it's plugged in!!!

Might be stupid but that seems to be the way it works. Such a pain to open the phone to check the status.

I know about those buttons... but even if you push them... it does not show on the screen if it is still charging or if it is completed. Just shows the time/date, etc.

Motorola told me today on the phone THERE IS NO WAY TO CONTROL THE EXTERNAL DISPLAY. It shuts off within a few seconds. Those other two options control the internal display ONLY! How stupid! There is no guarantee of any fix anytime soon if ever. I am returning my phone this weekend as I cannot live with a phone that will not show me the time or missed calls. This is a major decision flaw and one that is costing Motorola my business.

Actually the backlight option controls the outer display timeout. You can choose from 5, 10,20,30, and 50 seconds.

Well, that shows you how much Motorola techs know! You're absolutely right! Then hopefully Motorola is reading this and adds one more option to that menu - NEVER. They have that for the display timeout so a simple software update could make many of us happy campers!

Thanks for the clarification.
