USB to Windows XP

Do I need a V710-specific USB driver? Windows XP is automatically installing "Motorola V878-V690 Phone" driver.

I'm trying, without success, to connect my V710 via USB to my Windows XP computer. My intent is to eventually use Mobile Phone Tools. I cannot get Mobile Phone Tools to work, but I think my problem is the USB connection. Windows automatically installs a driver titled "Motorola V878-V690 Phone". Mobile Phone Tools acts as though it cannot see my phone. When I try to test the connection to my phone using Windows XP Device Manager, and using the the "Query Modem" test on the device, I get a response indicating that the device is not connect or not powered on (which of course I've verified).

Has anyone got a successful USB con...

You must be using that ****ty Radio Shack Future Dial Cable. Do yourself a favor and return it. You need to buy the Motorola cable for $39.99 and it will detect the phone properly.

Motorola Cable doesn't work either... Per Motorola, there is a glitch in the phone itself that wont be corrected until Mid September (depending on how long it takes the VZW morons to get the software out)... Motorola has said, to me, that there will either be a phone exchange thru VZW, or a flash update... To sum it up... Screwed until the update... Some phones work though...

Don't know... I tried on two computers to Sync... Both XP with SP2... Then you plug the cable in, it recognizes something, but the drivers never load... If you try to load them manually, the system says they don't exist.. Guess all I can do is wait until next month and hope they don't fry the phone when they flash it...

SP2.....that evil thing. I'd be curious to know how many people have SP2 that got it to work. I haven't installed SP2 specifically because of the long list of problems associated with it.

Verizon's business model must be based on Microsoft. Money, greed, screw the customer!

You need go into Device Manager and go into the properties of Motoroloa v878.. and click Update Driver - Install from a specific location point it to your \Program Files\Mobile PhoneTools\INF directory then next through the wizard. You need to be using at least MPT 2.21f.

I've tried that. There is no V710 driver under the MPT directory. Closest thing appears to be the "Motorola V878-V690 Phone" driver that Windows defaulted too. I selected it anyway, just to make sure I had the driver that came with MPT. Still didn't work. I'm gonna buy the Moto cable after work 'cause I have been using the Radio Shack cable so far without success.

IS it a Motorolla Cable or the Radio Shack one? Also, you need to run the live update like 3 times to fully update the software.

samccaulley,

once you upgrade to 2.21f,....then go to device manager and update the driver and specify the location....browse to your mpt directory....under inf...you should find a directory labeled "XP"...and the driver should be there...that worked for me...let know me if that help...

I have ran live update on mpt and am at version 2.21f (apparently latest) and have the proper driver. I am able to sync with the phone book and calendar but cannot get an internet connection. For 1x I'm using id myphone#@vzw3g.com, password vzw, dialing #777. For quick 2 net, I'm using qnc for id and password and dialing #777 and nothing. I did jut get 1x to work through dun but not qnc (id or password incorrect). Neither will work through mobile phone tools or Verizon's Mobile Office software. Any suggestions?
