updated keypad

Level 2

I was just ordering parts for stock in my shop tonight and noticed that the keypad part number has changed since the phone's release.

I don't know what the change is, but I am ordering them.

And btw, the reason the v710 keypads in the verizon store look screwy is the way the mount them in those stupid theft proof mounts. I took a close look myself and just shook my head... 🙄

I have 3 of these phones in service myself, each doing 100+ minutes a day. We have sold over 30 of them in the past 2 days to all NYC heavy hitters that love the phone. I have not had any issues with mine at all. (the engineering sample was another story 😳 ).

On the money/feature scale, this phone tops all you can find on anyone's CDMA network...

Are you on an engineering sample or an RS version of phone? I am very curious... you are activated out of NY, yes? I have a question about that... Its a roaming issue I found when using the eng. sample phone...

Nevermind, doesn't apply. Eng. sample phones roamed and worked on any system they felt like. That issue was not correctable with PRL update or firmware upgrades. I wanted to make sure you were not stuck with one.

As we speak I am checking out camera alignment. I just ordered updated part numbers for the speaker and keypads that I found on the shop parts site. By the time you get back we can do a complete upgrade for you!

How long do you think till you know whether the keypads or speakers are any different?

If they are improved in any way, will verizon do upgrade just by customer asking?

I'm still torn on this phone, it will be 7 days on Friday..I was thinking of going in and doing a swap due to poor sound but chances are what they have in stock is same as what I have, or worse.

My software is fine, no "bugs" that lot's of folks are complaining about; I don't expect them to custom tailor the functionality to me, but need to improve on lousy sound and weird keypad....

Well,

I swapped my phone at verizon today.
First a word about their technical service....they know nothing. I asked him to make sure the web browser was working when I left, it wasnt.

I went back and HE ASKED ME how to set it up!I told him it was set up when I bought the first one....He reluctantly kept my phone for a while and made a call to HQ to get directions. I'm not bashing this individual, but you would think that the company would train their employees, esp on some highly promoted phone and promoted service.

After all this, I realize my problem is was not a "lemon" but that I feel that the calling sound quality of this phone is inferior. Not volume per se...I simply do not get a clear voice coming through any medium..han...

i am glad things worked out for you. stick to what you think is good.

i find the 710 perfect in everyway so far.

My friend use to work in the tech dept. - yes NONE OF THEM KNOW ANYTHING TECHNICAL. He told me that he HATED when customers would ask technical questions about the phone (CDMA technology, BREW, WAP, Web tools, activation, specs, etc...) because he knew NOTHING about cell phones. They trained him on the basic CLEANING of the contacts. His main job was installation and data entry/returns/exhanges/simple diagnostics such as plug charger into phone to see if it will charge. He told me he thought it was funny his title was "technical specialist". He was terrified when a "cell phone expert" would challenge him.

I can back that up... The NYC Verizon Shop on 33rd street is their only real shop. They box up and send their stuff there. I don't mind, they send a lot of customers to my shop, but how can they call it a 'repairs' counter???

That's all fine and dandy, and I happen to love the phone as well, BUT...

Crooked camera placement? That's simply poor manufacturing and needs fixed. I tried 4 phones and all the camera lens elements were twisted to some degree and not flat within the housing.

Poor image quality? Well, I don't buy the "it's a phone not a camera get over it" deal. They should have fixed the camera to focus properly and to not completely wash out the image in slightly low to low lighting conditions. The image becomes corrupt, which is inexcusable. Digital cameras are many generations old now.

Lastly, bluetooth. It doesn't work. Either the development staff is incompetent, or their QA staff is.

Don't even get me started on the keypad. I h...
