False Advertising At Verizon for V710--what do I do?

I quickly bought this phone when I read this at Verizonwireless.com early this week:

"And with Bluetooth wireless technology, you
can ... connect to your PC or PDA whenever and wherever you want."

Then, I learned that maybe some of these features were "disabled", and after inquiry to Verizon, the tech support rep wrote this in an e-mail reply:

"Currently, the Motorola v710 from Verizon Wireless only supports the
following Bluetooth functions:

· Wireless headsets
· Wireless car kits (voice calls only, no syncing contacts)
· Dial-Up networking

Contact syncing, file sharing, and any other Bluetooth functions outside of the ones listed are not supported on the v710."

Apparently, not even the ones liste...

sue the bastards!!! Just kidding all should be okay in a month or so when the firmware update is fixed. If I were you I'd keep it. I'm going to.

Yes. I'd return it THEN repurchase after the firmware update IF it actually corrects the issues you have with the phone. Bottom line, there is no guarantee that this update will in fact address all your key issues. If you keep it more than 15 days you own it.

Take Kenstee's advice - best advice I can imagine in your situation.

There's nothing false about the statements Verizon wrote. Your last statement isn't quite right - by supporting Dial-up Networking, your V710 is more than an "expensive wireless headset opportunity". Connectivity with PDAs (that support Bluetooth) and PC's definitely works, and in my experience it works great.

Yes, I agree 100%. I use my v710 to with both my laptop and ipaq when I am on the go. Works great, actually. I can see where you feel deceived, but this is not false advertising. I am also fairly confident that the next firmware update will make the Bluetooth fully functional. It is the biggest complaint, behin...

When you say that you use your v710 with your lap top and/or ipaq, what do you mean. What can you do with the v710 connected to a computer? I presume you surf the net, if so at what speeds? Also are you connected using the bluetooth or USB?

Anything you can do with dialup, cable, DSL, etc. - web browsing, email, etc.

I haven't done a speed test, but it's speedy. I did a 500K file download and it appeared I was getting between 5K and 10K per second sustained for the entire transfer.

I use a Latitude X300 and Clie UX-50; both work *great* with the V710. I couldn't be happier with it.

Agreed. Works Great!
I use HP zx5000 and iPaq 4100. I am not certain of the connection speed, but it is impressive. I have not used standard dial-up in a long time, but this SEEMS faster than that to me...

Let's not forget the poor earpiece volume that many experience, speakerphone that doesn't work when the unit is closed, marginal build quality, weight, lack of an always on external display, main screen that you can't see on a sunny day and horrible, crooked camera. IMHO, it just isn't a keeper yet.

Revisit it once the firmware is upgraded. It may work for you. But, my gut also tells me they also have some hardware issues as well. Wouldn't be surprised to see a v710a or v711 in the relatively near future.
