Because VZW mucked up Motorola's software... There must be two versions of the phone out there right now as some people say they are able to connect with the USB cable, most (like us), can't connect... After several emails to Motorola, it was confirmed that there is a glitch, or should I say a F(*&$k Up in the software... That is, the software must not have ever been tested...

Motorola indicated that a patch, an update will be available September 1st... They said the phone will either have to be flashed, or that there will be an exchange program... Of course with an exchange, you loose everything on the phone...

Short story long, the software is to be sent to VZW next month.... So, I called Motorola to see if there was anything I cou...

Should be as simple as loading the software and plugging it in...

I think it is the phone tools software, but Motorola says NO... I have 2 XP systems, and neither of them would detect the phone... When I used the Bluetooth connection, I got the same results, except a picture of my phone appeared on the monitor instead of a generic phone like when I used the USB cable..

I hope it is just the software... I have been assured by Motorola that a phone software update would fix the issue, but that is still, realisticly over a month away..

If the update doesn't fix the connection, I will be ticked...

Good luck, and, hopefully someone else on this post will have a better answer... For both of us...

Love the phone, the only glitch I ha...

You get Phone Tools from Motorola -- Check here:

You will also need to update the program and the USB drivers. Here's an earlier post on doing that:

Just to make sure... Do you have the USB cable for the connection between the phone and computer? -- if not, you can pick them up on Ebay, or (if you want to spend more) from Motorola.

I had the same problem, but finally got it to work after doing a *228 re-programming of my phone and powering off & back on.

I'm not sure which did the trick (or both together), but I had tried everything under the sun before doing that.
