Motorola indicated that a patch, an update will be available September 1st... They said the phone will either have to be flashed, or that there will be an exchange program... Of course with an exchange, you loose everything on the phone...

I think it is the phone tools software, but Motorola says NO... I have 2 XP systems, and neither of them would detect the phone... When I used the Bluetooth connection, I got the same results, except a picture of my phone appeared on the monitor instead of a generic phone like when I used the USB cable..
I hope it is just the software... I have been assured by Motorola that a phone software update would fix the issue, but that is still, realisticly over a month away..
If the update doesn't fix the connection, I will be ticked...

Have you installed the correct usb driver? -- It comes with the update to phone tools.

You will also need to update the program and the USB drivers. Here's an earlier post on doing that:

Just to make sure... Do you have the USB cable for the connection between the phone and computer? -- if not, you can pick them up on Ebay, or (if you want to spend more) from Motorola.
I'm not sure which did the trick (or both together), but I had tried everything under the sun before doing that.
