Possible shortage of this phone...

Hi, I live in Alabama and used to work for Motorola in Birmingham. Two of my friends still work there and say that Verizon has cancelled or suspended their second run order for this model. This is probably going to cause shortages of this phone if that info proves to be true. I would not recommend this phone to anyone but if it is something you feel you really want regardless of the quality you might want to get one quickly. I am a fan of motorola products but this one just falls short in my opinion. Luckily I was able to get cust. service to agree to allow me to return this phone even though I am outside my 15 day trial. They said they would give me the benefit of the doubt since Verizon is aware of so many problems and the phone has such a...

I told this to my friend who use to work at the VZW store (he just quit a few weeks ago) and he talked to his contacts and they said they have heard no such thing. Store manager even called Orangeburg, NY and said this is not true. Called motorola and the rep said this is highly unlikely and just a rumor but who knows, maybe you have insider info. The rep wanted to know where I heard this from and I told them to stop by this forum so who knows 🙄

No, they did not give me a refund. Although that would have been great. They are allowing me to send it in as defective and giving me a credit towards a new phone. I have been a customer with Verizon since way before they were even named verizon so that helped too. I will be without a phone for a few days though since it is my understanding that the credit will not be issued until they receive the phone. Any suggestions as to what phone I should look at would be appreciated. I am leaning towards the A650 or A670.

i've been a customer since 1994 / 10yrs and they wouldn't do that for me, but again you did not explain where this info you got came from - I'm very curious. I know you mentioned you use to work for Moto so ....

Hi,

Yes, I worked as a product designer for motorola for several years. I now work in the defense industry. After being told repeatedly by Verizon customer service that there was nothing they could do I would just keep asking each rep to transfer me to their superior. After several transfers, I finally threatened to cancel my service since I was not under a contract. In fact I haven't been under one since before they were called "airtouch". I believe that was the name on the b...

You still aren't answering motocrazy8's question about where you got the information regarding the Possible shortage of this phone..., which you brought up.

Oh, I am sorry...I misunderstood the question. I thought he wanted to know who gave me the info on how to return the phone. Glad I checked again before turning in tonight. I got the info from a friend of mine that works for Motorola's mobile communications division. He is a sales rep and his wife is something like a regional distributions mgr or something. When I harassed him about my bum motorola phone he told me that he belived the carrier had already suspended all outstanding orders for this model. His words were that it ma...

Which he said means released, discontinued, and hopefully forgotten about. He said he did not know for sure but he did hear that all the upgrades in software and craftmanship that would be needed for the phone to be competitive would not make it cost effective.

Thanks, I suppose it's possible, but remembering all the rumors prior to the release of the phone that were proven false, I'll have to take it with a grain of salt and hope the other rumors about coming flash updates are true.

Also, since VZW has no other bluetooth phone, I'd...

in reality the v710 really does not have any major problems. The phone works. I had my friend who use to work for VZW read this thread and he said first thing tomorrow he will call the sales rep from Moto (one of many guys who sell moto products to the retail stores) to ask if this is true. I am sure he would know. I'll let you guys know.

Again my friend and myself have already called Moto directly and Verizon Corporate Sales directly and both have heard no such thing so...

I was told by Verizon customer service that the phone had been pulled from the shelves until they can be flashed by the new firmware. This was in columbus OH...don't know how accurate that was.

i just called my friend who has contacts in VZW corporate but he said he wouldn't be able to find out till afternoon since he just started his new job and is in training.

Well i did not ask Moto about the firmware, I just asked if the v710 has been pulled because of technical major problems and even quoted what DC said. I'll call Moto again and pose the question diffrently.
