Reported memory size on transflash too small.

I have the 128mb transflash card and have formatted it in the phone multiple times. I've successfully transferred both mp3's and pictures to and from the card using an XP pc.

Here's the question...
The phone reports the size on the mmc card is 3164kb. This is not possible as I have 68mb of data on it!

Any ideas?

sounds like it's reading the phone ram, not the TF card.

Are you sure the info is for the T-Flash? What are the three bits of info: Free space, Used Space, Total Space?

What does your computer say the totals are?

I'm at work now so I can't verify the computer totals.

It's definitely reading the transflash card, but does not seem to report the usage of files in the sub directories.

What 5 meg are you talking about?

That is exactly right. No memory card you buy will have EXACTLY 128 MB. It usually has about 122 Mb. It's only 128 MB in an unformatted state. The 5MB of space is reserved for file structure and operation space on the card.

Are you sure about that? I was always under the impression that it had to do with the definition of a "megabyte" --

Here is a clip form another web page:

(http://www.flashcards.co.nz/knowlege-base/mm c-card-vs-sd-card.html)

The "dictionary" definition of MB, and that which is used by software such as Windows Explorer is that 1 Megabyte is equal to 1,048,576 bytes. This is the case because there are 1,024 bytes in a kilobyte and there are 1,024 kilobyt

I have reformatted it in the phone multiple times.

Are you saying that yours now reports the COMPLETE memory useage of the card?

As of now, there is no way to view accurate free space on the transflash card.

Thanks.

You must reboot the phone to see the correct size on the transflash card!

I just re-tested this by adding a file and putting the card back in the phone = no size change.

Turn phone off-on

Now it shows the size change!
