1. Open iTUNES
2. On the top toolbar, click on "Edit"
3. Select "Preferences" from the drop down menu
4. Click on "Importing" in the pop-up at the top
5. Next to "Import Using:", select "MP3 Encoder" fromt he drop down list and click on "OK".
6. From your Library of songs, select as many songs as you'd like.
7. Right-click and select "Convert Selection to MP3".

That should do it, if you would like to get rid of all of your AAC files, make sure to not click on anything while your songs are converting. Only when it is done converting all of the songs do you then right-click and clear the selection. The selected songs should be the non-mp3 copies.
