ipaq - v710 hook up? can it be done???

i met some guy at the mall (in passing) who was using an ipaq with his v710 so I had to ask him "how it works". Well the guy didn't want to say much except that he bought "the last real ipaq from best buy....you can no longer get them....blah blah" but i noticed he was surfing the web with his ipaq.

this is something i would like to do as i am looking into PPCs but i have heard various rumors stating that you must purchase a data plan to be able to surf!? I don't get this. Is VZW looking to see what data transfers are happening on your acct?

Please clarify as I'll probably hit the local "terrible" Best Buy to see what IPAQ's they carry. According to various people on the web they do not carry any IPAQ's anymore (ones with windo...

nope, giftcard not allowed online --sucks! but it says they are sold out of both models of the ipaq anyway.

i just called three stores in my area and all of them either said, "What's an ipick????" 🙄 or "we no longer carry those pocket pcs things" ?????? 😳

uh, Best Buy no longer carries Pocket PC's??? great. maybe i woke the sales guy & girls up. They obviously did not want to check for me as they all of them said, "Can't you just come in and look for yourself".

damn best buy!

correction one of the best buy stores just called me back (wow!!!) and he said the only one they carry is the RZ1715 and he actually told me not to get it as it is the biggest flop product HP has ever put out. He told me he has sold quite a few only to have everyone of them returned! He says its a waste of money. He told me he had an "open box" 2215 but said that he wouldn't suggest me buying it as its been abused to hell. Uh ok...

So looks like i'm out of luck. Called CompUSA and again they do not carry IPAQ's. The girl said to try their website... ugh, i take it Pocket PC's are not the thing to buy huh...

Most people I know who have become proficient at both Pocket PCs and Palms prefer the PPCs... And now I sit back and wait for the flaming to start... 😁

I would suggest looking online for a, Ipaq 4150 -- It's a REALLY popular one (I have almost no complaints abount mine). I agree about the 1715; it's the first of a whole new line of PPC's from HP -- It's bottom of the line, and isn't worth it.

Check out Dell... I know a lot of people who have those, and really like them.

In any event, you can do...

maybe i can purchase the abused display model for a huge discounted price... but i'd be afraid the thing is broken... do you think it would be wise just to buy the display model and just try it out for 30days and then return it and buy a brand new one form somewhere else? i just want to see if this is a tool that i can REALLY use and have fun with. Don't do it... You want to buy one new and undamaged. Do you know ANYONE that has one?

As far as email goes, it's great! I don't like to surf too much on non-WAP sites, as it's not too speedy (I'm used broadband). I use it all the time when I'm on air...

Here's a link to how I connect (It's pretty basic):

http://www.pdastreet.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&th ... »

As far as getting on line, I started by using the built-in internet explorer. It works well, but I started using Netfront, which I found works a little better.

I use the built-in Email program for emails.

The connection just uses minutes; no extra.

The 4155 for $400 isn't bad -- I thought you said it was $450. I'd take a 4155 over a 2215 any day. The 2215 is larger and doesn't have WI-FI built in. I guess there's a bit of trade-off, as the 4155 doesn't have a CF slot (only an SD slot).. So you can always buy a CF WI-FI card for the 2215... It's just not as easy a solution.

ok... just to make sure my main goal with the IPAQ 2215 or 4155 is to be able to surf the internet like i can at work or at home. Other goals would be to use it as an MP3 player to listen to my fave tunes. Watching vids would be a plus but not needed.

Again main function would be to surf the 'net and be able to access my personal email. I would use the other tools to some extent but not as much.

I guess I am sick of Mobile Web as I find it annoying that you can not view HTML. Seems like a waste.

When using the v710 to connect to the 'net do you ever experience any "drop outs" where you have to re-sign in, etc..? How is the speed (using regular mins vs. express network).

Thanks again!

I just bought the 710 myself and have an Ipaq 2215. I was able to pair up the two, but it seems that when I log onto the ISP, I receive a message stating that the account or password information is incorrect. When I check back on the Ipaq, it seems that the password has been erased even though it was saved before. Do you have any idea why this would happen?

Thanks!

I have been able to get my Dell pocket pc to connect, but only as a modem, I can not swap data. As a modem, it is slow slow slow. The best use I have had is looking up a phone number or something like. Actually, I was trying to dial my ISP with the phone so I used the ISP username and my password.

I am guessing from what you are saying that I can't use the standard service to dial into my ISP and get e-mail. I am not sure why this would not work, but...

If you have any idea, please let me know.

Of course when I went to Circuit City they did not have the 4155 in stock (it is $400). They only had a 2215 DISPLAY model for sale for $300. Did not come with anything! So they told me to drive an hour to the store that had 2 in stock but i decided to hold off as I am still unclear on some points regarding this issue. Thanks for your help guys!

No no no no no no no -- Don't try to connect to your dial-up (or any other) ISP -- Use your v710 and Verizon as your isp when you are connecting.

It seems both models are being phased out / discountinued. But prices vary strangely. Such as I've seen the 2215 for $400 and the 4155 for $400. Or 2215 for $380 and the 4155 for $450!?

To check the partnership, turn on Bluetooth on the PDA. When you're looking at the home screen (all running programs minimized), you'll see the Bluetooth icon in the lower right.

Tap that icon, and select "Bluetooth Manager".

Do you see "Motorola Phone" listed? if not, go through the steps to add the phone as a device.

To make sure your extra dial string is empty,
go to start/settings/connections tab/connections/manage existing connections

you should see "verizon Wireless" (or whatever you named it) listed. make sure it's selected, and tap "edit"

Next/next/advanced

Check the extra dial-string box -- make sure it's empty.

Don't worry -- We'll get you connected!

When you type in your password, the PDA changes it to asteriks (and more of them than digits in your password). That's normal.

What user name are you using?

If your v710 is making a noise (should be two tones -- a lower then higher set), your PDA and phone are talking. Before you start to try to dial, open up your phone, and watch what happens. Does the phone say dialing?

You could also set up another dialing procedure.

I bet its something to do with me changing the settings. I know at first I deleted every "g" but when re-reading the directions I was supposed to delete everything BUT THE G correct? Also i changed the area code to my location and then just put it back the way it was.

So i did a lot of tweaking, maybe I messed up the settings someway. I think a reset and a start from scratch might prove useful. Since my Ipaq 2215 is brand new, there is nothing saved on it so ...

When the Internet Explorer is open, tap tools then options. You will find what you need there.

I would also suggest tapping "view" and unchecking "show images" -- It will make things run faster when you don;t need to see graphics.

also try this program:

I found that it makes surfing go a bit faster, too -- and will allow you to load most pages with java.

Say you received a book as a gift and you already have it, do you have to keep it, just because it was bought with a credit card? Try it, what can it hurt? And I won't even tell your b...
