Motorola says...
Just got an email from Motorola. They say that the screen scratch from the keypad problem isn't a known design issue....

I got another email from motorola. They say that the keypad screen scratch problem won't be classified as a "Design issue" until "all of the phones display the problem." I assume they mean every single phone ever made....

Not every single V710 ever made, but it needs to be a significant amount of people complaining about it for them to consider it a true problem.
If companies changed every little cosmetic thing that people found wrong with their products they would go out of business.
Its not just a Moto problem either, I had an Audiovox that had the sam problem. Its just a normal use issue, eventually you'll notice textures on the phone might wear down.

I dont think it's a far stretch to build cell phones where the keys dont scratch its screen. We can stick people on the moon but Motorola cant put in bigger spacers?
I think that cell companies build phones like crap so that they look like dog poop after a while and people go and buy new phones.

Yeah I agree that it is quite poor how the keys to scratch the screen and also the hinge above the camera gets scratched just by simple opening and closing of phone.

Yeah, and when you drop the phone on the face in gravel it gets scratched too. I hate that!

Listen things get worn, its just life, all my cell phones show wear on them, it happens. If it happened really soon after you purchased the phone, you need to be more careful.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to start a flame war. But like a lot of other people, I'm sick of people nit picking of this phone.

what type of conversation and testin goccured at MOTO wtih the design team. Certainly there must have been some design criteria to meet followed by testing. It is hard to imagine that they did not know about it.
This reminds me of the reputation that Microsoft has had regarding their large buggy software. I think we simply want folks on the design team to do their job well and not dismiss issues that they must have know of. someone had to decide on the height of the spacer and we must ask how they came to determine that number. Is MOTO using freshman engineers?
