Scratches obove camera lense. Photo quality

I'm on my second V710. The first had a software problem. Both have scratches obove the camera lense. I'm pretty sure it is due to when the phone is open if there is any debris or dust that can scratch the weak shell cover, it gets ground in between the cover and the rubber that stops the phone when it is open.

The material is very weak and scratches easy.

Also, the camera taks blury photo's. Anyone have ideas on how to make them more clear. I realize it is a phone first, but my friend's 1/3 megapixel Nokia takes sharper picuters.

There are some stories going around about the focus on the camera. People say that the photos are much sharper when it's set to the zoom positions. You might want to play around with this.

I have a sneaking feeling that this might be a software issue that might (I said MIGHT) be one of the things they are going to correct in one of the software updates.

it is a fixed-focus system, I don't remember exactly what the distance is but IIRC its 1-3 meters, anything closer or further away is blurred...

I'm finding that pictures taken from a closer distance are sharper. I need to experiment more, but haven't had the time.

I'm not sure I understand the big deal about a crooked picture.

I don't think I EVER take a photo with the camera exactly upright. As long as what I see on the screen is what I get, I don't care if I'm a few degrees off.

Again, I'm looking at the screen, not at the camera.

It's also not like I'm going to rely on my phone to create works of art... That's why I have a digital camera. The one one the phone is simply nice for factual pictures in a pinch.

Can someone please explain why it's such a big deal?

if you paid $300 for your digital camera and it took crooked pictures you'd be ticked I think...

Yes, but if I got a digital camera for $149 (what I paid for the phone) that made phone calls, played games, surfed the net, had bluetooth capabilities, and took admittedly crummy pictures, I would be stunned and amazed.

Even if the thing didn't take pictures at all I would be happy.

By the way, no one is complaining about the video not being as good as a video camera, so why all of the complaints about the camera? If I want to take a video of my vacation I take a video camera, if I want to take pictures, I bring along my digital camera. The fact that I can do any of this on a phone (even thought it is low quality) is just gravy to me. It is a phone first, and I think it is a great phone at that; scratches and all.

In ten years ...

You are right ... it is a phone first, but Moto and Verizon REALLY hyped the fact that this was like the first phone with a 1.2 mega pix camera in it and marketed the hell out of that.

My LG VX6000 with a 300K sensor takes better pictures

It is kind of like buying a Porche, that among other things, should do 0 - 60 in 5 seconds ... but you find out that a Pinto can take you off the line.

So far I believe that it is mainly us on this site that have really hyped anything. Verizon still has the LG VX2300 on their home page. We are the only ones who have worked ourselves up into a frenzy awaiting this phone to be handed down from the heavens.

Also don't be so hard on yourself. I think the LG VX6000 is at least comprable to a civic. 😉
