So With No Bluetooth OPEX...

I just purchased a USB Bluetooth adapter this evening assuming that the i would be able to use OPEX to send and receive files between my v710 and my PC. It wasn't until I tried that I find out VW has locked out this feature on the phone.

Should I take back the bluetooth adapter or do I assume that in a timely fashion people will find a way to crack the security on the phone unlocking OPEX? And i'm also assuming that even with purchasing a transflash card that I will only be able to watch / listen to mp3's, and not use the pictures or mp3's loaded as actual wallpapers or ringtones.

Part of the reason I got this phone was the ability to do this stuff, and now I feel really shafted. 😕

There's talk about a new firmware for the phone possibly supporting this. Regardless, I'd take it back since your can move files with a transflash memory card and a memory card reader. You could probably pick both of those up for the same price as a bluetooth adapter, and if they end up changing the firmware and allowing files to be transferred over bluetooth you could then go for the BT adapter in the future, and most likly for cheaper.

With the transflash card, will I be able to pull files from that and use them as ringtones / wallpapers / photo i.d's the same as having them loaded on the phone's internal memory? If so, I'll just go ahead and do that. What sizes do the transflash cards come in, and where's a good place to get them. (Fry's Electronics?)

Thanks 🙂

From what I'm familiar with (my card is still on backorder from amazon.com) you can copy files onto the card, and take photos and videos and copy them from the card to your computer, but any mp3 or midi ringtones you copy to the card have the then be copied from the card to the phone's internal memory before they can be used as a ringtone, which limits the total memory for ringtones to the phones internal 8 megs or so.

As for fry's, I wouldn't buy anything there, but they have everything else in the world, so they should have them. For reference:

I purchases my 128mb trasflash card at a local radio shack. i got sick of waiting for the online backorders. also you can transfer files from and to the manory card. as for the ring tones a friend of mine showed me the new .3gp format for a ringtone. you can go on to the nokia usa website ans search for the media center. this allowes you to compress mp3s to the .3gp format for smaller file size to be stored on the phone. the quality hurts a little but it works as a decent ringer.
