Modem connection via laptop and phone?
Hi All,
I have the $40/month unlimited data plan for my MPx220. What settings do I need for GPRS on Cingular (username/password/dial #) for the dial-up networking settings on a Win XP system to get it to use the moto phone as a modem via BlueTooth? The BT connection is fine but the data settings in Windows are not.

Good luck! I spent hours on the phone with Cingular "tech support". First they made me install their proprietary connection software. After installing and uninstalling twice, it didn't even recognize the MPx220 whereas at least creating a network connection in Windows gets the phone connected to the laptop. The problem is; Cingular can't tell you how to connect with their system! I had both the Media Works and 5MB data plans (for those that will no doubt defend the Cingular people). If you get it to work, PLEASE pass the info on to me! Also, if you can get it to connect to your POP3/IMAP email accounts, I'll take that info too. the 39.99 unlimited internet/pda connect package is for browsing on the phone, not using the phone as a modem, there are different packages for that. ($19.99 for 5mb...29.99 for 10mb.....39.99 for 20mb.....59.99 for 60mb....79.99 for unlim) the price plans for using your phone as a modem are the same for using the SonyEricsson GC83 (a pcmcia wireless card for use on gprs and edge netowrks) and the card is A LOT faster than using the phone! consider that option.
If you want to use your phone as a modem I think you need the Cingular Connection Manager software, available free at http://www.cingular.com/business/connection_m anager

Balony! I have spent numerous hours on the phone with Cingular. I have installed, uninstalled, installed...etc. the Cingular Connection Manager (seems to be tech support's canned response...uninstall the software and reinstall it). It won't recognize the MPx220 as a modem! The bottom line is: you should be able to call Cingular to get an answer and help walking through this process - rather than having to post questions on the web!
