Locked Phones from Cingular, GetConnected.com
This is beginning to piss me off; Cingular demonstrated a phone for me yesterday that asked for an unlock code; the rep said that these phones are locked to Cingular; he said BB versions come unlocked. Today I had a BB guy power-up a phone and it did not ask for an unlock code. Why the difference?
I contacted GetConnected.com ($179 after mail-in, tax-free for me, with 1yr contract--as opposed to BB 2yr mandatory), the BB online store affiliate, and asked if there versions were unlocked; the rep said they were indeed LOCKED. So if you buy it in the BB brick&mortar store you get unlocked, but go online and click through their site to purchase the same phone and it is LOCKED!?!?

I just received my phone from GetConnected, and it appears to be locked. I am not sure how to verify this.

Get connected is part of BB isnt it? They should be the same phones then, but Im only guessing. Also does the 179 for the phone require a contract? I just got the phone for christmas but since my contract wasnt up, we paid full price, but Im guessing you cant get a refund for that 179 though. I wish they would put the phone on sale instead of a rebate of some sort with cingular. Though we paid full price, I managed to talk the rep there not to charge me the extra 150 you have to pay when getting a new phone before your contract is up.
