Can the MPX220 be configured to access mail servers directly using SMTP and POP servers. If so how is the phone setup?

Go into messaging / choose outlook email / menu / options / account setup / menu / new /

go from there

I know that's probably the long way about it but that's how I set mine up and it's worked so far!

did you use an email service to set up your POP email (like yahoo, etc) or did you use cingular pop3 server.

I have spent a lot of time on the phone with cingular and nobody knows how to configure the phone for sending/receiving email.

I used my office POP3 mail server - the same one that I use for my outlook. It works great. It even leaves the email on the server so I can retrieve it again when I access Outlook on my desktop. I just use my regular username, password, POP3 address (same for incoming and outgoing mail), and it works fine (of course, a little slow - but that's MOTO!).

I use my standard (roadrunner cable) incoming server (pop-server.austin.rr.com), user ID and password for incoming mail, and for outgoing, I use the cingular server (photo.mycingular.com) without any authentication. Works fine for sending and receiving.

thanks for the info. I was able to get my incoming mail server working thru my cable company. But was not able to get my outgoing mail thru photo.mycingular.com . the error msg indicates that i cannot use this service. just wanted to make sure you are not using any authentication for the this server or if there are any other settings needed to make it work

thanks

gadgeTT, I'm also trying to set up my MPx220 with my Austin Rodarunner account. I can receive fine, but not send. Tried your recommendation to use photo.mycingular.com for the outgoing server, without authentication, but it still can't send. Any other settings I may have missed? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Every now and then when I try to reply to mail received from roadrunner using the cingular smtp server, it errors out. If I reboot, it works fine. Don't know why. One time, though, I wasn't paying attention when I rebooted and must have accidentally tapped the blue "action" button while doing so- and that reset the phone to factory mode wiping everything out. Oh well, at least it wasn't too bad to re-sync and then re-setup all of my personal stuff.

In short, though, most of the time, sending through the photo.mycingular account works. If it doesn't, try rebooting. Guess that's much help, but that's all I've got.
