as an mpx220 user for about 3 weeks (i anxiously awaited this phone for several months), i'm as frustrated as ever with some of the mpx220's quirks. when in cingular yesterday, the guys there told me the few people who've purchased the mpx220 from them have returned the phones. they suggested the motorola v551 to meet my needs as a cell phone and pda that syncs with ms outlook. anyone out there familiar with the v551 and if so, how does it compare to my beloved but soon to be departed mpx220?

i wouldn't want it. it's ugly (why navy and silver?) and feature wise, it can't touch the mpx220. plus, ive grown accustomed to windows mobile.

I REALLY wanted the MPx220. I ended up getting the V551. I'm happier than ever with the V551. Let me explain why.

I used to have a V600, and I had a lot of problems with it. One, it was very slow, two, I would randomly lose signal (for example, I'd have full signal and then zero signal), and three--the most frustrating thing of all--if I was in a public place I couldn't hear what the person on the other end was saying. The speaker was so weak that I just couldn't use it in a public place.

Now, I like I said, I REALLY wanted the MPx220. Then I did some research and I found out that the MPx220 had similar problems. Motorola has a history of releasing new model phones, and they don't work. The V551 is basically a rebuilt V600 with more fe...

"Okay so it doesn't have an external color screen, an internal antenna, microsoft windows os, a 1.2 mp camera, a flash for the camera, or any of those extra perks."

yeah well...if those perks mean nothing to you then why would you spend the extra money getting a smartphone anyway? I mean, if all you are looking for is a phone then obviously the mpx220 would be the wrong phone for you.

Pardon me but that was not what I was implying. Believe me when I say I would have LOVED those extra perks. But in all sincerity, we paid $50 for the V551, and the MPx220 would have cost $200. I mean sure, I bet the MPx220 is great and all, but I don't think those extra "perks" are worth FOUR times the cost of the V551, ESPECIALLY when the V551 is a remade V600 while the MPx220 is a first generation model.

oh i wasn't trying to sound like a smart ass or anything...i was just saying that when you buy a multifunction device, I guess you could say it's a jack of all trades but a master of none. For my car, I bought an in dash motorized navigation system/dvd player/cd player. Now, I realize that instead of spending 2000 i could have spent 400 i could have gotten a cd player with twice the functionality...however those other features really mattered to me. Same thing as buying a smartphone...if you don't need the features, then by all means, buy a regular cell phone.
