Hey Everyone

I wanted to let everyone know that my pursuit to extend the time on the external lcd has ended. At this point, I have gone on countless forums, reached out to Motorola 3 times, and to no success. At this point, there is no way to extend the time that the external lcd screen stays on. If anyone has any suggestions, let me know, I will be more then happy to do the leg work behind it.

Increase the value in the registry key HKCU\control panel\backlight\CMCS_SLCDTimeout

I believe it is in milliseconds (60000 for 60 seconds). You will have to reboot the phone after changing it for it to take effect.

Could you please explain how one can reach that point to find HKCU\controlpanel\backlight\CMCS_SLCDTimeout?

I searched through windows on this phone and found no file by that name. I am thinking that this section is where every file on the phone is found b/c it is tremendous in length. I found another folder under storage labeled registry, but only one file is in it and it is labeled registry.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Controlpanel\Backlight\CMCS _SLCDTimeout is a registry key. To view and change this, you will need a registry editor. There are several free ones out there. Here is a link to one of them, PHM Registry Editor.

It does have this annoying habit of occasionally shutting itself down for no reason, but it's free so don't ask for a refund.

Delete the value data and set it to 0, then press left. This will set it to the maximum possible value of 4294967295 microseconds (or you can just enter that yourself). That translates to 49 days. I just did it, so I don't know if it'll really stay on that long but we'll see.

Let us know how it works, and if it effects the battery usage.

pardon my questions on this, but I am a newby when it comes to this stuff. I went to that site and downloaded the registry update. When I pull it up in the device through storage, it doesn't open or do anything, when I pull it up on the pc, all it does is give me the option to repair or remove. I'm not sure if I am missing something here or not. I saw on the thread that it was mentioned to use the cab file but I am not sure where I would find the cab file or if I have to do something to change that. Any help on this would be creately appreciated.

Take a look at this thread, as someone just asked me about this the other day. Hopefully it will answer your questions.

FYI, in general to instal a CAB file, you just copy it to the phone from the PC (via Activesync, I usually copy them to \temp). Then you use File Manager on the phone to find the CAB file and click on it to install the application.

well if it's set for 49 days, then every time it's opened, it'll get reset. So if you don't use ur phone for 2 days and then open it up and close it, it's another 49 days
