They sent me a locked MPX220 replacement!!!

I sent my unlocked Best Buy Cingular branded MPX220 in for warranty service. They replaced it with a refurbished locked Cingular branded MPX220. Only problem, I was using an ATTWS SIM. Motorola says they can't unlock it, Cingular says they won't unlock it, ATTWS says only Cingular can do it. No services offer MPX220 unlocking on ebay (the only guy who advertises says he really can't once you email him). The sites that come up on google all are dead ends because once you go in there they really don't support the MPX220 or when I type in my IMEI it says, "not supported" because they only unlock Vodafone.

What am I to do? I give up! No more MOTOROLA! Any suggestions? I can always find codes for Nokias! All these shop owners are saying that Motorola is blocking some servers.

Nevermind, they just sent me a reply saying "no!" They said to call customer care. They told me no too. They suggested I migrate to a Cingular plan. As much as I've tried to avoid it, I think they've finally backed me into migrating to paying twice as much for my plan with an orange plan. Damn...

I've noticed recently that the prices on the plans and additional features have really changed with Cingular. I'm glad that I changed my plan over in November. Yet, I'm not paying twice as much. I thought that CIngular would be continuing to provide some kind of discount or incentive on pricing plans.

Yeah right, they're just going to gradually force us over by making it hard to get Motorola unlock codes and locking all of they're phones now. Ain't that a #$#@$#$? Even if you can get ahold of an unlocked one like I did, if it goes bad you can't replace it through ATT because it doesn't have an AWS number and Cingular won't replace it because your an old ATT customer. Then they tell you to send it to Motorola, which I did, and the phone is replaced with the newer locked ones.

A friend of mine has a wholesaler account with Cingular and says that now Cingular are locking all of their phones. Beforehand, all of the quad band phones were unlocked. I had even purchased some Cingular phones and used my ATTWS SIM with them before the merger. Since then, I have switched over and gotten a Cingular SIM. Personally, I think that Cingular is doing this, so that people from other GSM wireless providers can't just come in and purchase their phones without setting up service with Cingular. To my knowing, Nokia has been the only company that gives out the unlock codes. When I had T-Mobile service a few years ago, all of their phones were unlocked--even Motorola--But they, too, are locking their phones now. It hurts the co...

Yeah, when I bought my phone from Best Buy it was originally unlocked. To my understanding most Cingular phones have always been. This is just a ploy to get people to migrate over. As far as T-Mobile, I was a dealer since the VoiceStream days and all our phones were locked, but we could easily request the unlock codes through customer care.

Truth be told, they got me. If I can't get an unlock code for my MPX220, I gotta migrate and lose my $59.99 1200 Anytime, Unlm N&W w/7p, Unlm M2M. Damn..Damn..Damn..they're slick..

Perhaps not friend,

I got a copy from the local Cingular Store (previously AT&T) of calling plans.

Cingular has a GSM REGIONAL Plan the highlights are:

Rollover is NOT included
Family talk can be added for $19.99
Unlimited M2M can be added for $9.99
No roaming or long distance charges in your Region Footprint

The GSM Regional Plan for the following:

$59.99/mo 1000 anytime min, unlimited N&W, but of course M2M is an extra $9.99 for unlimited (I'm not sure if there is a standard amt of time otherwise).

The only downside of course would be losing the unlimited M2M otherwise and not quite as much anytime min.; it is still pretty similar to AT&T's GSM Regional plans, which do not involve rollover and roaming, thus they kept ...

My plan is national. What does this mean to folks who have $59.99 1200 National plans with unlimited N&W and M2M and 7- nights? I travel throughout the country.

I think I found an AT&T branded version though so I may be ok and not have to migrate over to orange.
