Garbled Voice
Recently, my MPx220 is hit-or-miss for its primary usage - as a telephone. Lately, when I answer or make calls, the voice on both ends is garbled. A reboot fixes the issue temporarily, but given my phone's propensity to sometimes do a factory reset while powering up, I'm hesitant to do the reboot procedure to fix this.
If I weren't so hooked on the whole MS Smartphone thing, I'd dump the MPx220 and go to something else like the RAZR, but I really want the Smartphone UI and currently, my only choices with Cingular are to stick with the MPx220 or find an Audiovox SMT5600 and unlock it.
Does anyone else's MPx220 have this garbled voice issue?

I have the same problem too. It is indeed our phones not the Cingular service. Hopefully Motorola will release some firmware to resolve this issue.

This problem is currently on the front page of CSP (our internal website). The document posted states the following:
The issue is a known one and Motorola is working on a firmware update to fix it. Once the firmware is released, Cingular customers will be able to send their phone for flashing or update via Moto's website.
Until the firmware is released customers that call into the XBM dept. with a "specific complaint" should recieve a free BT headset to help with the issue. No I will not say what the specific complaint is here, nor will I post the XBM number. If I did there'd undoubtedly be fraudulent claims which would ultimately ruin it for the people who are actually experiencing a problem.

I just got off the phone with Motorola US. I complained about the voice quality and was then transfered to the software dept. I told them about my problems with the "garbled voice quality" and the low earpiece volume. The software rep told me that Motorola will be releasing a software update within the month both thru Cingular and hellomoto.com. That's good news indeed but there was no mention about a free Bluetooth headset!

Read the other recent thread titled "Official update regarding voice quality" especially last posting by me. This issue is known to Moto/Cingular and affects all versions of the firmware in the USA. The software fix for this sound issue is scheduled to be released at the end of May 2005.

There's still no mention of an offer for a free, compensatory Bluetooth headset.

That's thru Cingular's XBM dept. only. Moto has nothing to do with it to the best of my knowledge.

I also forgot to mention this and it seems to be working: I was told by many different people at Cingular tech support that some type of software "upgrade" is transmitted to certain Motorola phones (MPX220 included) during the day, and for this to take effect they recommend the unit be turned off/on at least once a day for the "upgrade" to take effect.
Unless I'm dreaming there has been a noticeable change in voice quality over the past 2 weeks of turning my phone off/on once a day. Today I'm here at the Vancouver/U.S. border on a trip and getting only 1-2 bars because of bad reception but the sound is pretty good and has been much better than when I first got the phone back home (with 4 bars).
So try this and also wait for the new fir...
