Motorola Repair experience

Just thought I'd post this and share my experiences with the repair of my MPx220. Called the "Happy" Moto guy (boy if that doesn't get sick in a hurry) to check on the process for the repair of my phone, fell and cracked the screen, deep marks in the face. Was assured that if any charges would incur they would contact me for CC # if I provided email, tele# or address. 2.5 weeks and I got it back unrepaired with a note stating it was not under warr. and since no CC# was provided no repair. Resent after "nice" discussion with the folks from who knows where that you can't understand and they can't understand you. 3 weeks later and many, many calls plus having it placed on Priority 1 level to get it back to me in a hurry, yea right, I rec'd it today. The screen was replaced but the faceplate still had all the scratches. A call back to who knows where resulted in being told that "cosmetic repair", which it states on Motos web site, means "Oh that's the inside of the phone where you can't see" I was just livid and demanded (this is the first in 1 month and 5 days I got really stern with them) to speak with an American and someone at Corp headquarters. They are now going to replace my phone with a new one, probably reconditioned, and I'll be without it for another week, if I'm lucky.
I think these corporations are going to self destruct if they keep using overseas call centers who can not tell you anything more than you can get from the web site, if it's updated. Also, the frustration level of not being able to talk to someone empowered to actually resolve a problem is amazing. I for one will call a support line of a company prior to my next purchase, and if I cannot understand them or they actually admit they are not located in the good ol US......

Cingular wanted $450.00 to repair the phone since it had a cracked screen, Moto charged $70 for the same job. What you are going to find out is that you also can't get insurance from Cingular on the MPx220

I am paying for insurance for the phone. Luckily I have not had to use it yet. I guess it depends which rep you talk with if it has insurance or not.

I have insurance on the phone. I must have had a cool rep. Unfortunately I am awaiting a warranty replacement. :-(
