Since it has an MP3 player, can you use it to store and upload ringtones on your phone?

I have been able to email myself short 30second ringtones that I've created from my mp3 files. I simply converted and shortened the file using iTunes and then changed to .midi file. However I have not been able to email myself mp3's.
