The Koi has the decoder for mp3 but has been disabled in all applications because of request from carriers I think.

But there is a bug in the software that can be exploited to set an mp3 file as ringtone. Here is how -

You need to of course have subscribed to picture messaging service. You need to email an mp3 file to @vzwpix.com. But, before you do that, you need to change your file name to .mid. Suppose your mp3 file is howard.mp3, you need to rename it as howard.mid. You don't need to do any conversion, just rename. Attach this .mid file to your email.

The phone will download the message and after it finishes downloading, it will give an option to view the message. Select view - of course the sound won't play. Now click options and then select "Save Sound". It will give you the name of the file that it saved. Now go to mainmenu->Media Gallery->Sounds->Saved Sounds. You should find the file you saved there. Go to that file. When the file is highlighted, press options and select "Assign" and then select "Ringer". Now the file will be moved to the Ringers folder. Now you can go to the Ringers foler either by going back or from MainMenu->Media Gallery->Sounds->Ringers. Go to the sound file that you just moved. Make this file the default ringer. So the mp3 file which is disguised as midi file is now assigned as ringer. All this while the file will not play.

Now just call your phone. Whew !!!!!
