Quick question about SIM phones

This is my first SIM card phone, so some things are new to me. What is the difference between saving your address book numbers on the phone and on the SIM card. Cause I heard SIM cards can burn and you lose all your info, so isn't it better to save it to the phone???
...
I save to phone until I need to move the SIM to another phone then I copy my phone book to SIM and then xfr to another phone... but that is just me. As far as burning the SIM, that is new to me. I guess if you some how got the SIM inserted cross ways, it might short the chip inside but I doubt that it will actually generate smoke.

I was told by a Cingular rep that if you put a security lock on the phone and you enter the wrong code too many times to try to unlock it, the SIM will burn and you will need a new one.
Any truth to this?
...
Yes that is true there are security features on your phone and pass codes that you must obtain from the manf. to unlock and if you enter the wrong security code more then 3 time you will get sent to the PUK code and if you type in the wrong code again 3 times your sim card will be burned and you will need to replace it
...
the way you burn a sim card is when ppl mess around with the phone, it will sometimes ask you to enter a PUK code. If you enter the wrrong code three times, it will fry the chip and you will have to go get a new one.
