Any tricks to getting the 6600 (Verizon) without a data plan!
Any tricks to getting the xv6600 without a data plan!! I want the phone for the PDA functionality and don't want to pay $25 a month for data. Verizon says they won't sell me the phone w/o a data plan and even went as far as saying that it HAS to have a data plan for updates that it does many times a day and would not function correctly w/o it.
I say that is BS. I want the phone from Verizon, anyone know how I can get it and possibly cancel the data the next month or something like that?

I AM THE OWNER OF A VERIZON AGENT, THE REASON BEHIND THIS IS THAT EVEN IF YOU DON'T HOOK YOUR PHONE UP SEVERAL TIMES A DAY IT WILL LOOK FOR NEW EMAIL AND USE MINUTES WHEN IT DOES THAT IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE PACKAGE THAN YOUR BILL ENDS UP VERY HIGH

Can't I disable this? I have a Kyocera 6035, it is setup to not check my emails on a regular basis, only when I tell it too. I would imagine that the phone has the ability to work w/o a network connection.
Also, Cingular and Sprint have this phone, they don't require a plan. I also talked to another Verizon agent yesterday, they said they wouldn't require me to get a data plan. Then again, all the have is the demo, hopefully the story doesn't change when they get the real thing in (I hope within a week?)

VZW is being big dorks about NA-MOU access. They are telling people with the Treo600 the same thing. Unfortunately, some who have gone before us have screwed us. They ended up with $1K-2K bills because they didn't completely understand how the phone worked and MOU (Minutes Of Use). I have had my Treo (with MOU) for a good while and I NEVER, EVER, come close to using my minutes. It is understandable that they are only protecting themselves.....but it is plain wrong to do it that way (making people sign up for an OVER PRICED data plan).

Verizon also has a minimal use data plan for PDAs. It's something like $5.00/month then you pay a nominal rate per kilobyte sent/received.
