SMT5600 Internet usage
So I ordered my Audiovox SMT5600 from Cingular and am receiving it in the mail tomorrow morning and I was wondering a few things about the internet on the phone. I had the Motorola MPx220 before and I know that the phone has a full HTML browser and all of that good stuff but I was wondering about pricing.
From Cingular you have to get the Unlimited PDA data package for $40 a month for all PDA/Smartphones to get internet access, but I was wondering if you could get the $20 Unlimited MEdiaNet package and have it work. I work for Cingular and from all the data meetings I've went to they've told me no, but I don't see why it won't work. Has anyone tried this or is anyone doing it now? We get discounts on phones and accessories. They give us employee lines that are free but any features that we add on we have to pay at the regular rate. And I have a regular consumer line like any other person has because with the employee lines they are always monitoring your calls to see who you're talking to and I don't want them prying into my life. And since we don't get a discount on features I don't want to pay them $40 a month if I can get it for $20.

It requires some manipulation on the billing side. I've got the 5600 with an ERP plan and I can access full sites, it's just not fun trying to see them. In order for this to work, you've got to get someone to add a "dataconnect ISP" in the billing system. From my experience, that's what gets everthing working for the html browser. That was definitely one feature that I was looking forward to getting when I got the phone, but I have realized that it's really not worth the trouble. It takes forever to download all that info and you have to scroll forever to see anything on the screen. But if you can get someone JUST ignorant enough to add that feature on, you shouldn't have any problem using the 20.00 feature.

I don't mind all the scrolling, I did it on the MPx220. I have a friend who is an agent and has access to POS.com so I'll see if I can get him to add the feature. Is dataconnect ISP a free feature?

Awesome, I had my friend add the MEdia Net unlimited plan to my phone and it seems to working fine, no idea if he added the other thing as well, but I'll ask him and make sure he adds it for me.
