v551 Email Setup problem
hi, just switched to Cingular and got the Motoral v551 phone. i love it. but the problem is i can't send email. keep getting error message everytime i attempt to send an email message (whether multimedia, text with picture attachment, or plain text. i get the error message "Can't connect: email setup incomplete."
i went back to the shop where i bought it (ATT/Cingular) and they we'rent able to set it up. i tried to set it up with Yahoo POP Mail but it can't connect to the server. i suspect that this is a configuration problem with the Cingular POP. did anybody experience this? were you able to resolve it? what's the configuration? i would've called Cingular Customer Care but they are not available on weekends!!! bummer!

the email message set-up is not complete. call cingular cust. service and tell them you need the settings for email. This should help.

I just bought the V551 this past Friday and have been having the same problem. My AOL AIM isn't connecting and I can not seem to get either the AOL or the cingular customer service people to help me...I've been doing a web search to try and figure out the correct POP3 server settings (no luck yet). I am able to use Yahoo IM and mail (had to set up a Yahoo account, though). If anyone has figured this out, please let me know.

i got it working this morning. i called up a tech guy at Cingular support. he told me that the email option will not work because they don't have POP setup. so instead he instructed me to use multimessage option when creating a message then send it to the email. this worked for me.
i know it's a bummer. but at least i can now send pictures and videos to email. good enough for me. try it.

Thanks for the reply. However, the guy at Cingular is wrong. I actually just got the email (and the AIM working). I found a document online through cingular's site called 'Device and Software Settings: Wireless Internet, Wireless Internet Express, and Data Connect'. I found that my phone had not been configured properly (incorrect WAP settings, etc), so I used this document and was able to reset user names and passwords and now I can send email and use AIM. I was able to send an attachment, but I have not be able to receive one yet (I'm still working on that). I'm an aol user, so my return address is the [email protected] (going through aol's server), but I'm satisfied that I'm getting what I paid for. Anyway, if you would like a copy of the docum...

Just go to url from your phone and put in yahoo.com... you can use your mail and everything from there...

i've read the "Device Settings" document but i didn't find anything about setting email. i think my WAP settings is fine so i didn't dare modify it. the thing that bugs me is that "Email Msg Setup" in my v551 is incomplete and i don't know what values to patch in. see below. maybe someone out there knows the settings for this.

thanks. actually this is what the tech guy did at the ATTWS/Cingular store. but keep getting an error message "Can't connect to server." so i revert to it's default settings. when i called Cingular support the tech guy mentioned that Cingular has not POP setup right now. it's a minor inconvenience since i can still send "email" via MMS. but it's still an inconvenience nonetheless. will keep on researching this.

11. The DNS IP should have all zeros

13. This brings you back to the email message set up screen
