Thanks, but no thanks
All in all, Cingular network seems pretty good, but lots of dropped calls, voice quality not quite so good as Sprint CDMA, and incoming callers always complaining that they were getting all circuits busy messages.
The v.551 feels nice in one's hand, and has tons of great features. But all in all, the interface is too complex, and most of the cool features I would never use anyway.
So, I'm heading back to Sprint and a new Sanyo phone (Sanyo, IMHO, simply sets the standard for quality and performance in handsets - the menu is simple and elegant, and the phones work better than any I've ever used).
Not complaining here - the Cingular folks were very professional. I'm glad I tried it.
Your chief gripe is that there were many dropped calls and incoming callers complained about busy circuits. As with any phone service provider, depending on where you use the phone is going to dictate the quality of calls whether they are outgoing, received, dropped or simply static. I decided then that any phone that you can't use without actually reading the owner's manual closely has poorly designed software. I know that everyone will occasionally need to consult the manual, even with the best software. But that should be the exception, rather than the rule. The Motorola folks sh...

I was quite happy with Sprint's overall reception hearing from my neighbors about how bad Verizon is. But I still did not get any reception from my basement.
When my 2-year contract expired with Sprint, I questioned them about $150 special discount promotional offer for the existing customers. The deal turned out to be even worse than what a new customer would get. I felt cheated.
Now I get a decent reception even in my basement with Cingular.
