How do you make the v551 continue to vibrate??
I have my phone set on "vibrate then ring". It will vibrate for a couple seconds, then start playing the ringtone.

With the phone closed, and the time displayed, press the left outside volume rocker up or down 1 time to display the ring type. In your case, "Vib then ..." will display. Then, press the the small button below the volume rocker (repeatedly) and the ringer types will cycle through the choices. Pick your favorite one. To redisplay the time, press the volume rocker 1 time - doesn't matter up or down.

i dont think that is what he was asking. i have the same problem and from what i know this is how motorola made the phone. it cannot be changed.

If, perhaps he was referring to a continuous, non-stop vib, then yes, I agree with you. If he was referring to a longer vib, then a pause, followed by other long vibs, etc, then the phone (like many others) supports that.

He is definitely referring to a longer period of vibrate before the audible ring starts when the phone is set to Vibe then Ring. On my V400 I get six vibrates before the audible ring kicks in. On the V551 I just bought it only vibrates like 2.5 times before audible ring which is one reason I'm returning it. I like having more time to silence it before the audible ring starts and I can't find a hack to change the vibration length...
