Unlocking the Home Screen's right soft key
I just got the v551, and the right soft key is set to Video Camera. Since the video camera sucks, I don't plan on using it and would like to change the right soft key in the Home Screen. Unfortunately, Settings->Personalize->Home Screen lets you change the left soft key but not the right soft key. Anyone know how to do this?

You need to check that again. I just got my V551 this past Monday and I changed both the home screen right and left soft keys. I changed "video" to "messages" without a problem.

I have been able to change the Right Soft Key to something else. In my case I changed it to "Goto URL"
Are you getting any kind of error message? Or are you just not able to select the Right Soft Key?

Yeah, the Home Screen menu just doesn't have an option for the right soft key. Damn, maybe I need firmware upgrade. Anyone else have my problem?

Left Soft Key
Smart Key, which is the key on the right side of the body of the phone - not the right soft key which is directly under the screen.

Yep, you're definitely missing Right Soft Key option which is between Left Soft Key and Smart Key on mine. Unless they have recently changed the software to prevent that customization-wouldn't make any sense-looks like a glitch with your 551...exchange it

If the solution is to exchange the phone, can I do that at a cingular store? I'm a premier business customer (IBM employee) and ordered through the web - would rather not have to wait for another phone to come in the mail...

i got a v551 for christmas and i changed my right soft key to games with no problem. my suggestion is if you plan on buying a data cable, go to ebay and search for the seller cellcables.com or you can go to that website for $5 more than what is on ebay, that software allows several advanced options such as unlocking the right soft key, because on the v600 apparently at&t customers were stuck w/ mMode for their right soft key, it also performs the basic functions that mobile phone tools does, and then some

It's not a glitch. It seems intentional. I had the same problem as VerizonGuy1 when I had a V600, and now I have the same problem as the original poster with my V551.

yes it does charge the phone, and i never had a v600, i just saw it on their ebay listing
