Hey all. I'm a Verizon customer and thinking of switching to Cingular. If I stayed with VZW, I'd go with the v710. If I went with Cingular, I'd go with the v551. I know this isn't the best place to get an unbiased answer, but is the v551 equal to the v710? Seems that they are equal except for a few things such as transflash card on the v710.

Any feedback is appreciated.

The V551 is a much better phone than the V710. I just switched from Verizon to Cingular on 12/24 and the coverage is comparable to Verizon.

V551 has much better build quality. The phone doesn't feel like a plastic toy. When I saw the V710, i was sure it was going to break in a matter of time. The V710 also doesn't have full bluetooth where the V551 does.

Get the V551, you won't be sorry. This is the best Motorola phone i've used to date.

I just switched from Verizon to Cingular this past Sunday. Chose the V551 over the V3 mainly because of EDGE compatibility and a couple of other minor usability differences.

Was 'excited' about the V710 coming out, but when it finally did, was very disappointed with what I read about the bluetooth implementation. Verizon crippled it so that files cannot be transferred without going through their data network (getting them extra $). It also seemed to have major compatibility issues with many of the in-car bluetooth handsfree systems. About the only thing BT seems useful for on the v710 is connecting to Motorola headsets.

Also the v710 is a bit chunkier than the v551 - mainly due to extra length. The v551 is just barely bigger than ...

You mean in order to transfer things via bluetooth with Verizon, they actually CHARGED you for it???

On top of that, I just learned that Verizon in their infinite wisdom (and greed) is now resetting the clock on their customer's contracts if they switch to a different plan. A guy I work with needed to add minutes 6 mos. into a 24 mo. agreement. He now has to be with them 30 mos. or pay to get out!!

Yet another reason to switch - as if I didn't need more.

My only prob is the mobile to mobile. My wife, some family, and a few friends are on Verizon. This could kill my minutes if I go to Cingular.
