Motorola V551 / V330 / V547 / V555 / V557
Icons for Ohone Book?
I just got my (2) V551's this afternoon. One for me and one for my wife. I went to cingular to buy myself the Razr, but just couldn't justify the price. Came very close.
My question is: I just had all my numbers transferred from my Motorola i95cl to the V551's. In the i95cl I had icons identifying "cell phone", "work" or "home" phone numbers next to each name. On the v551 I get two listings of the same person with the same icon. How do you distinguish which phone number is a cell or work number in the phone book?

Edit the contact and where it says "TYPE", you can distinguish the type of number there...ie, work, cell, fax, office, etc.

I see it on page 30 of the manual, but don't know how to get there. I try and edit the name details, but "Type" never appears.

Are the numbers saved on the SIM or the phone itself? I think you can only categorize them if they are saved on the phone.

I've had Verizon for years, and I'm new to the GSM technology. Is it better to save my phone book in the SIM card or in the phone? I hate that if I save them to both, I see the number twice. Is there a way I can undo this, without deleting the number on either one (SIM/phone) Help!

it's best to save to both because you can then transfer them from one device to another that supports SIM (usually unlocked devices) but as far as moto's go, unfortunatly I have not noticed any way to show from just one list (phone or sim) and I'm on my second moto ( first was T720) so if you just save to SIM you can't do some of the personal settings like tones or pics, but from the phone itself you can... so it guess it depends on wether or not you want to have certain personal settings or if you want to be able to have your numbers all the time if your phone stops working...

go to address book> Phonebook menu> Steup> View By: Lists
Sort By: Names
View: Primary Contacts
You'll have to go into each name and edit the info like the type (mobile, home, main etc.)for that spacific phone number... I hope that helped and it wasn't too confusing...
This will also only show the names without pics and make your list a bit more compact if that's what you are looking for... unfortunatly I haven't figured out how to show just numbers on the phone if they are saved to both the phone and sim... not too sure if you can do that.

Thanx for the info. I also discovered that the names must be saved on the phone, not on the sim. If on the sim, the field "Type" does not appear.
