V551 - calls lost after 6-8 minutes?

I've been having a problem with my v551 on cingular. When I first got it, for about a week, calls to other cingular customers lost audio after 6-8 minutes. I.E. the earpiece just stopped and the other person usually couldn't hear me. Then, after a week or so, it stopped. I figured all was fine, and it was for about 2 weeks. It's started doing it again, on calls to cingular people and land lines. Sometimes the call will drop, other times I'll have to hit end 3 or 4 times to get the call to end.

Any ideas?

I don't know if this is the same problem, but my daughter's phone was dropping calls also when she first got it. She took it up to be looked at and they said the chip wasn't set in correctly, so they fixed it. But she is still having problems with it. She just called me and when I answered all I heard was a fast busy signal. We have to take it back up there.

i don't know about the main post, although could be related. the problem dropping calls is due to a software glitch that motorola's creating a patch to repair it. basically, as it was explained in the notice we received, if the phone isn't power cycled (turned off-on)every 3.03 (yes that was how it was placed) days the phone would begin to drop calls and continue to do so until it is cycled. it's not on all V551's, but enough to create a patch. the versions w/the correct software should hit shelves at the beginning of feb, but the patch might be a week or so out because they're trying to determine the best way to get it on the phones.

I'm having he same issues and Cingular told me about the "powering down" thing today. Does anyone know how/if they will put the software patch on our phones? Is it better to just get it replaced? I'd like to see a copy of this "notice"...is it posted anywhere? Thanks.

You should get your phone replaced. I have a V551 and have not had one dropped call at all. I'm in the NYC area.

Just keeps getting weirder. If any cingular tech people happen to run across this, let me know.

Alright, I called them about a week and a half ago. They reset something on their end, and I'm good for about a week and half. Started doing it again sunday. Called them today, rep called me back from some higher level technical group. He asked me to try switching the SIM cards, if I had that option available.

Switched my SIM with my GF's (she has an L1400), no problems. We stayed on the phone for 10 minutes, nothing. Switched back. Again, no problems.

What the freaking hell is this? Seems like...network? Very obscuure phone bug? Either way, it's annoying as crap.
