V551 Speed Dial etc.
1. The V551 has pretty much one of the worst manuals ever written. It simply doesn't cover a lot of essential stuff.
Could anybody explain the fundamental difference among SIM, Phone, and Fixed Dial numbers? My guess is that the numbers in the "SIM" are accessible even when you are out of service area, but you can't make any 1-digit speed dial.
On the other hand, the numbers saved in the "Phone" would not be accesible when you are out of service area, but be able to make 1-digit speed dial. Am I right or wrong so far?
What the heck is the "fixed Dial" then?
2. The manual says to press down the voice key to record, and I can't find the voice key anywhere.

I'm learning also, but so far I've figured out that the SIM will serve as a backup storage for numbers in your phone. You can merge all #'s in phone with SIM for backup and still have access to speed dial for #'s on phone. Also, there is no voice option for SIM stored #'s. Bad thing about merging is that #'s will show up twice in address book. Way to fix - change classification of #'s in SIM to different classification from #'s in phone and choose to show only classification used for phone stored #'s.
The one digit speed dial enables you to hold the number down for 2 seconds to place the call without pressing any other keys.
The voice button is on the right side of the phone. The front page of the manual does at least give us this muc...

Thanks for your help. Now I know how to record my voice which can function to save phone numbers to call.
I know how to make a speed dial with 4 digits, but how do you do with 1-digit? My question should be how to set the speed dial?
Thanks again.

Use the phone memory instead of SIM and set the Speed # to a number between 1 - 9. You may be able to use SIM memory but I'm not sure. I didn't. The number 1 may be your voicemail by default. You may be already aware, but you can use 2 or 3 digits instead of 4 as you suggested, but it will require you to press the "#" sign then send button after you enter the 2 or 3 digit store number. But speed dial is only single digit #'s.

Just realized something. Go to Menu, Settings, Initial Setup, 1-Touch Dial, Change. You can choose Phone or SIM memory for the 1 touch feature. Not sure what Fixed Dial is. Anyone?

Now I know how to set 1-digit dial numbers. However, I still don't know the trick to use 2 or 3 digits instead of 4 for speed dialing.
Thanks again.

You have to have the "Store to:" option set to "Phone" and not "SIM". I don't think you can use speed dial for #'s stored in SIM memory, only phone memory. #'s stored in SIM only use 4 digit speed reference.

Just remembered something. My phone has "1-Touch Dial" set to "Phone" instead of SIM. This may make a difference as to what is available for speed dial. See above thread for how to get to 1-Touch Dial setting change options.
Are you still are having trouble? let me know. I'll try to help further. Good Luck. These menus are treacherous.
