purchasing/activating s710a
Hey all. Thank you for all the informative posts. Just like everyone else, I am also anxious to see this phone released, and I have a question. I am currently an ATTWS subscriber who has already fulfilled contract, and ready to switch over to a Cingular plan to buy the s710a. I recall someone posting the link to amazon to buy the s710a at appx. $260 after rebates. Here's my question. 1) If I enroll in a Cingular plan through my school, I get a 7 to 10% discount on my monthly bill, waiving of activation fee, and I can get phones with a 2 year contract price by signing only a 1 year contract. If anyone on the list has a similar agreement, how could one take advantage of amazon rebates and also enroll in a plan that gives discounts? 2)...

I work for cingular, you can't get the phone through Amazon and keep your number, at least not without a lot of long phone calls. Amazon works off of new activations and thats how they make thier money. It is unfortunate, the people who I have dealt with who got phones through Amazon had to get new numbers. When they go to port thier existing number to the new phone they get slapped with a $175 concellation fee on the number they activated with Amazon.

If you cancel it before 30 days you should be okay I would expect. It would be just like cancelling your account within the first 30 days, they bill you only for what you've used but don't hit you with the big cancellation fee.

Yes you could but, you would have to return the equipment before the account could be cancelled. Cingular Customer Service calls to confirm that the equipment has been returned before they will cancell the account. If you can pull it off, more power to you! đ

Darn! My plans foiled again by logic! :-)

Thank you for the valuable feedback. What I still do not understand is why a reseller such as amazon or letstalk can offer rebates with higher dollar values than the carriers such as Cingular. Also, are there any strings attached to contracts with resellers? Thanks in advance.
