Hi,

I am in the market for a new phone within the next 6 months. I am with Cingulair. Debating between these two phones. I want a cool phone but most importantly something that works, ie I can make and receive calls without problems. I have had Panasonic GU87 for the past two years or so and it has been a nightmare. I live in NYC and have to reboot the thing everytime I step out of the subway or out of an elevator and sometimes multiple times. Lately it has been completely losing the network for no reason, killing the battery. Other than that it is a good phone. I am tired of the frustration and am looking for a new one, any thoughts as to witch will perform better the s710a or v635.

I am kinda leaning towards the s710a, like...

Well, if that camera on that phone is anything like the V710, I'd run far away 🙂

Not to mention those damn antennas moto puts on its phones. I have a T720 I can't wait to get rid of. So tired of it jabbing me in my thigh when it's in my pocket. Plus, it's always catching on things. I accidentally broke it off the first week I had it.

After Motorola's recent blunders with the V600 & the V710, I'd be skeptical.

This is coming from someone who has ALWAYS had a Motorola phone (on my 4th - a V220 - at least until this s710a comes out).

I think Motorola has gotten lazy. They think that people will simply buy their products b/c of their name. Sony Ericsson & Nokia are putting out some dang good phones lately that get better reception & cost the same or less.
Case in point - compare the v551's piss-poor reception with the Nokia 6230 or the SE Z500a.

I also have a pansonic gu 87 and i cant wait to get the sony s710. As a fellow panasonic gu87er i suggest you wait for this phone which should be out any time now. You get media, style, dependability, sexiness, camera, and fun and games. 😁

I agree with Moto maybe getting lazy. I have a V60t color, and its okay. Not the best, but it does the job. It feels sturdy, although the screen is tiny and I had to superglue the antenna on. My friend has a V250 or something like that (The Verzon one) and it felt plasticky and cheap. Sure, my V60 is metal, but it still gelt cheap and I didnt like how it didnt make any sound when you closed the clamshell. Mine is really loud, and it assures me that it will stay closed.

I'm getting the v551 for my wife. After reading user reviews, I have not seen complaints about reception. Can you tell us more about the problem, as well as any other problems with the v551 you have noticed? Thanks. - s710fan (also waiting for s710a)

Like someone above said, Moto has really gotten sloppy, I think the V3 Razor really missed the mark, and the 551 has had so many technical problems that they should scrap it. The 6230 from Nokia is a really awesome phone, the only problem is it is about $100 more than 551 so everyone was gobbling up the 551 until the z500a from sony came out, it is a surprisingly good phone- Its not fantastic but its at an awesome price, and the functions are pretty decent, the only thing its missing is bluetooth, but for the price it cant be beat. I just cant wait for my S710, the phone promises big, and I hope it delivers. I would just be wary about motorolas, they really have gotten sloppy, 3 of there phones out on the market now have software issues, jus...
