Okay, i know Motorollas have been crap lately (i personaly returned three mpx 220's to best buy), but this is a feature jamed phone. Does anyone know the cons of this phone vs our beloved s710? Or how much it might be?
...
cons:
battery life, (probably, i think there might be some reviews out there) camera quality, screen (i think it's only 65k colors, might be wrong), size, and no EDGE.
...
I agree about EDGE, but that is kind of offset by the WI-FI. do you think the price will be in the same range as the s710?
...
god no, i'm expecting 6-700 with contract, not 400.
wifi isnt everywhere though. i want edge so i can get directions while on the freeway in the middle of the desert (arizona resident), stuff like that. even with wifi, there are TONS of places where you cant find an unencrypted connection.

Thanks for the straight forward (and fact based) info! There are so many rumours around here that it is refreshing. I will hold out for the SE.

Smart choice. And I agree with Joel. WiFi may be nice and all, but it's only nice and all IF you have somewhere to make use of it.
I don't think you, or any of will be disappointed with the S710a, it's going to be the mother of all phones. At least in my opinion.

For some areas having a wifi phone will be very handy. I used to live in DC and could find an unencrypted access point just about anywhere I went. I think if you live in a larger city then it will definately be more useful.

lets face it fellas, pyro, hero, the s710a pwns. it pwns n00bs and it pwns pros. we've gotta start a cult or something, we're outgrowing this forum.

WHERE THE HELL IS MY S710!!!!(while grabbing my pitchfork and torch)
PRICE - heard "rumors" from our SE rep. pricing will be between $400-$500 with contract. MSRP will be about $650-$700
...
What do SE reps know about pricing with contract? In my opinion; Nothing! I doubt SE knows a single thing about Cingulars intentions about pricing, and I doubt they care.
...
Well...considering that Cingular is the only provider planning on carrying this phone, they NEED to know what price they plan on offering the phone for. In MY opinion: they know more than you or I, I'm just going off of what I was told BY a Sony Ericsson Representative. Lastly, why would they not care about the price? If you have any experience in sales, pricing and demographics greatly affect any products' profitability and popularity. Since Cingular will be purchasing a certain alloted amount of the phones direct from SE, pricing, promotions, and compensation are necessary factors to be weighed by both companies. 😲

Yes, but once Sony Ericsson sells the S710a's to Cingular they've already made their money. I very highly doubt Sony Ericsson would have any interest in Cingulars business plans. There's just not logical reason that they would, and you have no presented one either. You're right, I don't know anything about business and what not.
It's like with an automobile. When Acura sells a bunch of cars too Woodfield Acura, Woodfield Acura is going to price them as they choose too, Acura's already made its money. I cant call up Honda's HQ in Japan and ask them how much Woodfield Acura is selling their new RL for, they wouldn't have the slightest clue, nor would Honda of North America. The only price they could give me is their MSRP, which the de...

The difference in your auto analogy is that there are thousands of resellers of Acura in the united states vs. the S710 which is being sold by one location - Cingular.
SE is probably aware of the pricing that Cingular is aiming at with this phone, and may even have made an initial recommendation about a price point to generate the most sales (and still make a profit). If Cingular sells more phones, SE sells more phones. SE would be interested in that.
...
Of course SE makes a recommendation, which is called the MSRP as I'm sure you know. SE is going to sell a given number of S710a's regardless of anything, what happens with them after that I personally don't think they care. Of course, that's not the only amount they'd like to sell, like any business they'd love to continue selling their product. But what Cingular sells the S710a for in no way directly effects SE, unless Cingular sold it for some astronomical price, which in that casnobody would buy it and SE would have only sold so many. But that's where the MSRP comes in, which all resellers always take the MSRP into account, sometimes price under it and sometimes slightly above it.
My take on this whole thing is, is that I don't see...
