Pop3 support w/ s710a & gmail

Looking at the SE website I see that you have to do a special pop3 setup on their website. Lots of pulldown menus seemingly reveal no pop3 support for the gmail that we all love ☚ī¸ The only way I know to get around this is to have my Gmail forwarded to my hotmail account which is supported.

Anyone have any better ideas? (Besides torching this or that building in retaliation)

you can do it.

You have to set outgoing SMTP mail to port 465 and incoming pop3 to port 995

pop.gmail.com
smtp.gmail.com
login: [email protected] (as apposed to user)

And the server requires authentication - uses SSL connection.

Not sure how easy it would be to setup on the phone though.

I hope it really is that simple... Here's a link to the SE page I was telling you about. Kinda makes it look like they want you to set it up through this page, don't you think? Hoepfully I'm wrong. Thanks for the info you've already given.

That's what I said to myself this morning when I saw that.... as if you have to be on "The approved list of servers from whom we @ SE will let you retrieve your email from"

I have gmail setup on my v3, the only thing I had to chage was the outgoing port to 587. works like a dream now. I didnt read the link, but I would only guess that as long as you can set your own pop settings, and the phone supports ssl, you could get gmail. pop3 settings seem difficult to some people, the list of already setup providers may have just been to make that easier, and cut down on poepl calling into se or service provider saying "It says email, but how do I set it up". Explaining pop mail to some people is somewhat impossible.
