Question for Cingular Employees

Hey, people. I'm debating over the Treo 650 and the S710a. I like them both...I like the coolness of the S710A, but I like the features of professionalism of the 650. At any rate, I see that the Treo 600 has went down to 299.99 before 50.00 mail in rebate. You guys have any idea when the 650 will go down some? Think the release of the S710a will cause the 650's price to go down? Thanks....

I'm no Cingular employee, but I personally don't think the release of the S710a is going to make the price of any phone Cingular offers go down. Especially the Treo 650, they are in 2 different classes.

I'm also not an employee but I wouldn't expect the 650 to go down in price for awhile yet.

If you can't decide between these phones you should think about what you need the phone to do. If you want a PDA - go with the treo but if you want a phone / camera then go with the SE.

just my 2/100 of a dollar.

(in a deep booming voice, as though heard through a megaphone)

AND NOW A WORD FROM A CINGULAR EMPLOYEE...

You need to compare similar products. The s710 is not meant to be a pda phone. Sony is not trying to compete w/ Palm One or Blackberry with this product. Like Hero was telling Vanillachild yesterday - think about what you need the phone for (or what you want to do with it). If you look at a bunch of his posts from yesterday I think it will help you (I'm too lazy to give you a link - just look at his posts from yesterday). Hero & Pyro are both correct about the price issue - Cingular isn't going to discount data devices just b/c the s710 is coming out. They didn't do it for the 7160 (or whatever # that ugly dang Nokia is), t...

I see...thanks for the info and suggestions. I really like both phones, but they are both expensive...well at least to my pre-Bachelor, pre-Certifications budget. I want a PDA phone so that I may check email on the go (going to school for ISS), schedule appointments, etc. I know that the Treo was made for this, but the SE is capable of doing these things as well...and the SE is just so daggum sexy. Makes me want to go...uh...nevermind. Anyway, thanks for the advice and info, guys. I love you all... 😢

I can't check e-mail on my current phone...your phone has to be able to support pop3 (in most cases) e-mail. Which the SE does and all PDA-phones will do but not all regular phones.

Right now I don't own a single phone w/ pop3 & I still check my email from both my phones (v220, nokia 3120). You can check email that has a wap server. I have a hotmail account that I check (bookmarked wap site is mobile.msn.com) and I also have a Yahoo account that I unfortunately must use for work (wap site is wap.yahoo.com). There are also some wap sites that will give access to gmail, though I haven't tried any of them yet, as they are not operated by google. That makes it a bit of a security liability. The Hotmail & Yahoo wap sites are run by their respective companies.

I didn't know that the S710a could work as a wireless remote for powerpoint presentations...that's cool. I found that out last night. What a wonderous device we have...or...err...almost have.

No apologies needed... I understand 😢

Once I get my S710 I intend to set up pop3 to check Gmail. 😎

All jokes aside - if you really need/want to be able to check email on the go & you don't have a pop3 enabled phone, hotmail & yahoo aren't that bad, even though they are a considerable step down from Gmail.

Gmail is Google's free web-based e-mail. The reason it's the 'in-thing' right now is because A) it's free B) it's from Google (google is gold these days) and C) 1 gigabyte of space (more than anyone else had before Gmail came along.

I say real e-mail meaning any email you can check without a web browser. Something you can check with Outlook, thunderbird (my personal choice) or other e-mail program. Generally an e-mail account that has pop3 option (which allows you to check it from said programs).

You don't mind if I correct you do you? 😛 🙂 Most phones that Cingular has (well as far as I know, Nokias, Motorolas and Sony Ericssons) has support for POP3/IMAP4 Email.

Not sure what you corrected since all I said was not all - my current personal phone (Sprint), my work phone (nextel) and according to Disciple, neither of his (v220, nokia 3120).

Wasn't restricting my comment to just Cingular either. Pretty much all of the newer phones (yes), but if you've got a phone a year+ old than it's probably less than 50/50 that it does.
