I can't wait for this tech - i've been hearing about it for the last 2 months now but seems to finally be taking steps toward reality.

Cool...the Bluetooth Killer. With the introduction of this new protocol, maybe bluetooth will go down in price. Then we can be happy no matter what we get. Can't wait for this to come out; I've never been a huge fan of Bluetooth anyway. BT has a great concept, but quite a few flaws.

What flaws does Bluetooth have? 😳

Well, my favorite flaw is the virus attack that came about a little while ago. A BT virus is a true virus indeed, just like a cold. If I had a virus on my cell phone, and you and Pyro just had your BT enabled on your cell phone, just by getting in range with my cell, you'd both get the virus. I actually thought that was cool...now THAT is a virus. They should've called it the Flu!

Also, there are connectivity issues with BT; you can just lose a connection for no reason all of a sudden. BT is great technology, I think it is VERY neat. However, it is technology, technology is man made, and man is prone to mistakes. Everyone except for Pres. Bush. He never makes mistakes. 🙄

As far as I know, if sending something through Bluetooth, you have the choice to accept it or not. So, if you choose to accept the file, it's your own fault. That's why you have your 'paired'/trusted devices.

And sooner or later, this USB thing will be just as open to getting viruses into devices. Someone, somewhere out there will do it.

As for connecvtivity issues, sure they exist, I've never personally had one, but I'm pretty sure that any wirless communication will have some sort of connectivity issues.

The same goes for this USB thing, it's technology, technology is man made, and man is prone to making mistakes. And I'm sure this will have their fair share of them as most everything else does.

(Im not trying to argue with...

Oh, no need for the last sentence, I know you weren't trying to argue. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. As far as the paired/trusted devices, I believe the virus carrier didn't have to wait to be accepted as a trusted device. If you had BT on, then you would get it. Don't quote me on that, though...it's been a while since it happened.
As I said earlier, I think BT is great! I think this wireless USB technology will be great as well! Yes, the USB tech will have its faults as well...virus prone, too no doubt. That's why I chose to go into IS Security field...a virus is job security for me. As long as there are hackers, I can find a job somewhere...until robots take over, and we all have to log into the Matrix. Then Pyro and ...

The weakness isn't bluetooth. It's WINDOWS! EVIL OS!

I'm pretty sure the Bluetooth "virus" is really a Trojan horse.

Everything I have read about it indicates that you can't just get it by riding the bus. You have to do something stupid like accept a pairing, read an email, or click on an embedded link.

Or do something even more stupid like leave your phone set on "automatically accept pairings" or whatever.

Anyway, it's not something that can propagate on its own, it requires stupidity on the part of those infected.

Bluetooth has a key advantage over wireless USB - Bluetooth was designed from the outset to have a very low power usage profile.

Somehow I just don't see wireless USB coming to cell phones. It would completely kill battery life.

Personally i've never expected this to replace bluetooth in phones for that very reason.

But bluetooth keyboards might be going away eventually as well as allowing all those USB devices everyone has to be connected wirelessly. I'd love to have my scanner connected wirelessly!
