When I connect my laptop to the internet through my phone via Bluetooth, it tells me that im connected at 115,200 bps. What does this translate into kb/s, if at all? Thanks in advance.

bps = bites per second. there are 1024 bites in a kilobyte. so your answer is 112.5 kbps.

Your reply is semi correct.

bps = *bits* (not bytes) per second.

There are 8 bits in 1 byte

You're right about 1,024 bytes in 1 Kilobyte.

I'll finish the equation later.

There's actually 8 bites to a byte and 1024 bytes in a megabyte. Usually they use a lil "b" for bites and an uppercase "B" for bytes. 😁

First, Phoneking13 is correct, bps is bits per second and there are 8 bits in a byte.

However, and this is an uwritten rule, 1024 bits per kilobit is only used for storage. For transfer rates, use base 10, 1000 bits is a kilobit. So 115,200 b/s is 115.2 kb/s.

It depends what base you use, base 2 or 10. Kind of like a hard drive manufacturer will say the drive is 20GB (base 10), but Windows says 18.9GB (base 2). And as a general rule, for storage, use base 2, for transfer use base 10. Confusing I know.

You just gave me a headache 😕 LOL

bits, bytes, kilobytes, bases, all these 2's and 10's and some GB's đŸ˜ŗ

Confusing is an understatement ☚ī¸

The simple answer is either 112.5 or 115.2 kb/s depending who you talk to.
