S710a from Amazon...

I noticed that Amazon sells the S710a without a contract, just the phone. Does anyone know if you buy just the phone, is it still Cingular branded and locked or unbranded and unlocked? Thanks.

I'll bet it's still branded and locked.

I was thinking the same thing too. There's always Expansys with their jacked up prices. They say theirs will be unbranded and unlocked.

The brand really isn't as bit a deal on this phone as others since "cingular" is written on the keypad which is usually hidden. Who do you plan on going with for service?

Well, I'm already with Cingular, I have been for the past couple months, even before I showed up these forums.

I've just read around in difference places that the software in the UI and the phone over all is alot faster in the unbranded/unlocked version of the phone.

My friends S710a menu is fine, it's the same speed as my menu on my T637. In almost all the reviews I've read, people are saying that the UI is really slow. It's not that big of a deal really, but I guess I'm just picky like that.

Well, I've used a t637 here in my store this week & was pretty happy with its overall performance & speed. If the s710a is comparable then there shouldn't be any problems or complaints from me.

On a side note, I was quite impressed with the outstanding reception on the 637. The only other phones my store has had that get comparable high-quality reception are the z500 & the Nokia 3120.

Well, I havent been able to actually play around with an S710a, only an S700i, so I can't really judge how the S710a does. You say it's comparable and I do take your word for it, so I guess I wont let the whole branded and unbranded thing be a big deal for me.

I'm suprised you say the z500 gets good reception though, I've heard alot of people crying a river over it. But then again, what don't people bitch about these days? Give them a mile and they ask for 5, ya know?

Actually, I said "if" the s710a's performance is comparable to the t637....

If someone is complaining about not getting good reception on a z500, then they aren't going to get good reception anywhere. As much as people gripe about it not having BT, or a better screen or whatever.... What they need to realize is that the phone is meant to provide SOME advanced features at an economy rate. I think the phone has done that. It gets the best reception of any flip phone I've ever seen. Beats the crap out of the v551 in that dept. I'm always telling customers that if they don't care about BT, go w/ the z500 over the v551. Better recetpion at half the price.

(SE ought to pay me for that last paragraph 🤣 )

Ohh okay, well, then I guess I'll have to find an S710a and see how it does.

And yeah, they should pay you for that last paragraph, then you could buy me an S710a LOL 🤣

lol, oh yeah... on a serious note, I know the screen size on the z500 is the same as the T637, but is the resolution better on the z500? Thanks

Overall resolution is better on the z500, however, the t637's screen seems to be a bit brighter looking I think.

(Not griping) But if this phone had Bluetooth, I would have been sold the day it came out.
