Caller ID Spoofing

I just recently watched a news report about Caller ID spoofing ... I noticed that when I check my voice mail from my cellphone it doesn't ask me to enter my password. Apprently they have the voicemail setup so that if u call from your own cellphone it won't ask for the password.. So theoretically if someone calls the # to check voicemail (6107336639) and has the caller ID as my cell phone # then it won't ask for my password... Is there a way to change this.. Has anyone else thought about this??? Can someone esle access my voicemail via Caller ID Spoofing???

Just remember if they can access your Voicemail by just spoofing the Caller ID, they can change your voicemail recording and lock you out of your own Voicemail..This would just be a pain in the ass to
have to call cingular and reset your voicemail..
Just a hassel and a waste of time...

There is a way to change it - I just can't remember how. If you call Cingular they can tell you how to do that.

I saw Kevin Mitnick do a CallerID spoof on the Screensavers about a year ago, funny how mainstream news is just starting to pick this up.

Even funnier how mainstream news is showing everyone how to do it. Along with getting around car alarms, The Club, etc.. 🙄

Remember when Geraldo was in Iraq and on national television he said the location of the troops, WHAT AN IDIOT!!

me too..i think something wrong with the rest of their service..this should already be address since the t-mobile incident. Pins are required and must be use. Maybe your area hasn't upgraded their system.

I would be shocked of Caller ID spoofing worked against the carriers themselves.

Remember, the carriers have ALWAYS had access to your phone number. Caller ID is something layered on top of the normal network traffic that allows everyone else to know who is calling. Doesn't surprise me that someone has figured out how to spoof that, but if they've actually figured out a way to fool the carriers I will be floored.

In other words, I wouldn't worry about it. The carrier knows who you are no matter what is being transmitted, and that includes any Caller ID spoofing that is being attempted.

It's not that they are 'fooling' the carrier but fooling the voicemail login which authenticates based on caller ID number.

Ahhh... that makes more sense. I didn't realize that voice mail relied on Caller ID technology - I would have thought they'd have used their own internal data to verify where the call was coming from.

Carriers are cheap and dont want to spend the cash on implimenting a coded system that the users phone would have to transmit anytime they called their voicemail.
