S710a vs MM-5600

Roadkill

Mar 23, 2005, 6:10 PM
We just got a brand spankin' new Sanyo MM-5600 in the office and here are my initial impressions:

S710a 4 teh w1n!!!!

Seriously - the MM-5600's screen is slightly smaller (same QVGA resolution) and isn't as bright. The cameras aren't even comparable - the S710's is a real camera while the MM-5600's seems like something they've patched onto a cell phone for marketing purposes. It is grainy and washed out compared to the S710a's camera.

The MM-5600 also just feels plasticky and cheap compared to the S710a. Size-wise they are very similar with the Sanyo being both smaller and larger - the body is slightly shorter, but if you include the Sanyo's external antenna it is slightly longer.

The Sanyo does have a more responsive menuing system, but I don't even notice it on my S710a anymore.

I sure am glad the Sanyo was delayed beyond the introduction of the S710a because had it been released first I probably would have bought one and then been disappointed.
